Focus on Ukraine

at the KF Washington DC Polish Film Festival

on March 5th | 3:30–9:00 PM


We will present a short and two feature films depicting human tragedy during the ongoing war in Ukraine. The evening will conclude with a post-film discussion with special guests including Łukasz Karwowski, director of Two Sisters, and Vladyslav Deva, assistant director of People.

  • 6:15–8:15 PM People (Ludzie). Introduction by JP Schutte, Festival board member and former Counselor for Economic Affairs, U.S. Embassy in Kyiv.

The discussion will provide insights into the filmmakers' vision and offer a deeper understanding of the situation in Ukraine from both a local and international perspective.


The gripping drama Two Sisters follows two estranged half-sisters as they embark on a risky journey to rescue their father, severely injured in the war. As they cross the front lines near Kharkiv, they find themselves in Russian-occupied territory, where the harsh realities of war force them to confront not only their father but also their own fractured relationship. People tells the story of five women from different generations, each facing the brutalities of the war in Ukraine. As their lives intertwine, the film explores themes of love, courage, sacrifice, and the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people. Read more HERE.
