Yoram, Idan and myself spent the better half of the election day discussing
ideas and the future of tzafim. We had fun although we didn't get
around to code. Sometimes you have to do more then code, you have to
set your goal and plan the future. Too bad Yehonatan wasn't with us.
Our goal is to "Modernize Democracy" our way is through a single Django
site licensed under GPLv2 with a community of coders, promoters,
activists and watchers. We've broke it down to a development goal -
wrapping up the elections project and researching
knesset.gov to see
what we can get from it so we are better informed as to what our
representatives do.
I'm going to lead the development for now, using the sprint days and the upcoming PyWeb-4 (
http://groups.google.com/group/pyweb-il/web/pyweb-il-4)
to add the missing parts to the elections site. The main part that's
missing is a timeline app that will create time based stream of events
and will email each user a unique, interesting timeline. I also need to
design for scalability so I'm going to play with building a timeline
server, probably based on EC2, that will be awoken by a croned Django
command - starting him up wit a feed of pointers to fresh content. I
want to base the server software on
http://github.com/ericflo/django-couch-lifestream/tree and couchdb to store the feeds and email each user his view.
You are invited to help by coding, commenting, starting a discussion, doing some research and most important - inviting friends.
Benny.
