At the GOP Senate debate, John Sununu told a roomful of Republicans he’s running to send me back to “bussing tables” at my family’s “chicken restaurant.” He meant it as an insult.
As if the people who work in restaurants — cooking your food, clearing your plates, keeping family businesses alive — have something to be embarrassed about.
My great-grandfather came to New Hampshire from Greece over a century ago and opened a candy shop in Manchester. My family built it into a restaurant that’s been serving our community ever since.
John Sununu was born into a political dynasty. His father was governor and White House Chief of Staff. His brother was governor. John went to Washington and then spent the next 17 years cashing in with Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Wall Street.
Oh, and his family business invested in a literal gold mine in Azerbaijan that sells minerals to China. He’s never had to work hard a day in his life — and his comments at that debate prove exactly what he thinks of people who do.
The people who bus tables, flip burgers, and run small businesses in New Hampshire don’t need a senator who looks down on them. They need one who comes from them.
John Sununu doesn’t know the real New Hampshire. I do. That’s why I’m running for Senate.
