I’ve spent much of my career fighting to protect the foundations of our democracy — from defending voting rights as the 82nd Attorney General of the United States to working to protect the voice of the people in elections across the country.
Through my experience, I've learned that the fights that matter most often happen at the state level, especially in state supreme courts.
I've also seen what happens when those courts get captured by extremists backed by dark money. We see judges who put a political agenda ahead of the law, and ahead of the people.
That brings me to what’s happening in Wisconsin.
This state has been at the center of some of the biggest fights over democracy and voting rights in our country. On April 7, there's a Wisconsin Supreme Court election that we all need to turn our attention to.
Right-wing special interests have hand-picked their candidate, Maria Lazar — someone with a clear record of embracing extreme positions and even conspiracy theories — and they're ready to spend whatever it takes to put her on the bench.
These are the same forces that spent years trying to pack the courts with judges who will do their bidding and undermine our democracy.
I’ve seen this playbook before, and I know how it ends if we don't fight back.
That’s why I’m throwing my support behind Judge Chris Taylor. She’s the real deal. As an attorney, a public servant, and a judge, she's spent her career protecting the rights and freedoms of every Wisconsinite.
But she needs our help to compete against the dark money flooding into Wisconsin as you read this.
