Happy Father’s Day, friend

Today, I’m thinking about my boys.
Friend, when I was 21 years old, I became a single dad — two months before I was supposed to leave for a year-long study abroad program. I didn't know how I was going to do it. I just knew I had to.
I applied for Section 8, WIC, and food stamps to support my son and stay afloat while finishing up my degree. Medicaid ensured that my son and I were both able to see doctors and stay healthy. These programs were a game-changer for us.
I went on to earn two master’s degrees, a law degree, and a PhD. I met my amazing wife, Berna, and together, we built a family.
One of our boys is a doctor now. Another is in law school. I’m the proudest dad out there.
As I look at my sons, I think about everything — the programs, the teachers, the neighbors — who supported them along the way.
That’s the same spirit and hope that’s fueling this campaign.
Every parent in Nevada deserves the same fighting chance I got. Every kid deserves a real shot at a future. But right now, MAGA Gov. Joe Lombardo is standing in the way — vetoing bills that would lower costs and letting Trump dismantle the programs that hold Nevada families together.
I'm not doing this for the limelight. I'm doing it because somebody has to. And I've been fighting my whole life — I'm not about to stop now.
If there's one thing I'd ask for this Father's Day, it's this: chip in $5 and help me make sure every Nevada family gets the same opportunities I got.
