Gina recently launched Team Texas Public Schools, new bipartisan organizing program designed to engage parents, teachers, and administrators — regardless of party — to fight school closures across the state.
Gina has seen what our public schools can do when they’re properly supported, and she has seen exactly what happens when politicians rig the system against them.
The truth is, Gina first ran for office as a mom because politicians were threatening to shut down her son’s neighborhood school. She locked arms with neighbors, built a community coalition, and they won that fight.
In Texas, Greg Abbott has been threatening Texas public education at every single turn. For the last decade we’ve seen him:
- Over-test our kids
- Undermine our teachers and drive people away from the profession
- Defund our neighborhood schools, forcing campuses to consider closures and pushing rural districts onto four-day weeks
- Hand public dollars to private interests through a voucher scheme with absolutely no real accountability
Texas kids deserve so much better. Plain and simple.
Gina is running for governor because she knows we can deliver on the true promise of public education. When she is elected, we are going to end the era of the high-stakes STAAR test. We are going to roll back Abbott’s voucher scheme that funnels your hard-earned taxpayer dollars into private academies, and we’re going to ensure Texas educators are properly paid.
Our neighborhood schools are essential to the American Dream, but they cannot survive another four years of being starved of resources by Greg Abbott.
