The racist and antisemitic texts that Elise Stefanik’s allies sent were wrong — full stop.
Dismissing and downplaying them shows her failures as a leader in the Republican Party.
I spoke with Chris Hayes on MSNBC about these text messages:
“These [messages] are abhorrent to our core, not just as Democrats or Republicans. It should be abhorrent to all Americans... Elise Stefanik is saying those who condemned this are ‘hyperventilating.’ JD Vance says, we're ‘clutching our pearls.’
…They are trying to act like it's ordinary behavior in the Republican party. Maybe it is. Maybe that's what's very telling, but it should not be, and that's the message here.”
Policy, I will continue to call out Stefanik, Vance, and any GOP leader who downplays or dismisses these antisemitic, racist messages.
We need to make sure voters know that this kind of behavior is not ok and will not be tolerated.
