City of Poughkeepsie police are investigating a shoot out Monday evening.

At a little after 8 p.m., a white Pontiac was driving southbound on Academy Street with two heavy set black males, police said. At the same time, a dark-colored vehicle with at least two black males was driving north on Academy Street.

As both vehicles approached the intersection of Academy and Barclay streets a black male occupant of the dark colored northbound vehicle stood up through the vehicles sunroof and began firing at the southbound white vehicle, police said. The driver of the southbound white vehicle put the car into reverse and rapidly backed up Academy Street, lost control of the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and eventually crashed into a house on Academy Street.

The dark-colored vehicle continued north on Academy Street firing at the white car and was last seen driving north on Academy Street.

The occupants of the white Pontiac fled the vehicle. A short time later, a female called the police reporting the white Pontiac stolen.

No one is believed to have been hit by the shots fired, this incident is still under investigation, police said. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577
