A man stood in the door of a bar on Mill Street early this morning and fired at a 21-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man, police said.

The shooter was described as a young black man who was wearing a white t-shirt and red baseball cap. He was lean and did not have facial hair, police said.

The victim was undergoing surgery today at Saint Francis Hospital. Police declined to say how many times he was shot.

The incident occurred at 2:51 a.m. was "not a random act of violence," said city police Detective Sgt. Matt Clark.

A City of Poughkeepsie police Crime Scene Unit van was parked outside Noah's Ark bar this morning, and crime scene tape blocked off the entrance.

No one had been charged in the incident as of 9 a.m., Clark said.

Numerous people witnessed the shooting, he said.
