Hah!  Yeah our search results aren't great right now but I'm sure they'll get better.

The words aren't actually pronounced the same way (at least I don't think so).

Pokki is pronounced like:
- poke + e
- pokie

There's no double "o" sound like there is in "pookie".

haha! i cant stop laughing.. but anyway, i like the app, iv evaluated
it, is there a option to pop out the frame, like *window.open ? so,
the idea is just quick browse on the pokki bar, and heavy entry thingy
is on the other bigger window but w/ pokki sdk. Iv tried to resize the
gmail app from 400,400 to 1024, 768 the pop-out animation is not
smooth anymore, *is there an option to disable animation aswell?

p.s. don't mind the pookie thing, i mean i like pookie's but pokki is
different, ^_^ just kidding...

Hi,

About your question concerning the "window.open" you could actually use pokki.openURLInDefaultBrowser(url); to open the URL in users' default browser. As for now there is no ways to open an url in an extra window, using the built-in chrome engine. You could use the websheet, which opens an external url inside the popup, but it will not result in a separated window as you wish to, and it's not its default purpose.

About disabling the animations, this is not yet possible either, as Ernestas said, popup are also supposed to be small windows. Also keep in mind that UI and smoothness will be enhanced in the near feature.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

J.

The main purpose of Pokki is to add a presence of users' favorite web apps on the desktop, while bringing sort of "small widgets" to quick access to main features of great apps. The contents of a pokki itself is up to developer's imagination. As you said, it could be intended for chat apps, but also rss reading, social networking, emails, games ... Anything that comes to your mind, and could be useful to users. And I am sure most of attempts will come up with great ideas ;-)

J.

Pokki and RocketDock does not have the same purpose at all. Since Rocket Dock is only a "Mac-ish application launcher", and Pokki does not provides quick launch of existing applications, it's adding new ones to help users use their favorite web apps easily.

Hi Ernestas,

Unless every app will have own install tool which will install Pokki and that app.

That is how Pokki will work in the future.  When users end up downloading and installing a Pokki from a website, the installer will be very small and automatically download abd install the platform if it's not present.  Otherwise it will just 'add' the Pokki to the already installed platform.

Right now it's just focused on developers and not distribution of Pokkies, but that will change...

Ernestas,

The plan is to enable developers to distribute their Pokkies by the middle of this year (summer).

Blake,
I'm very happy to hear that. I'm creating chat app right now. I hope it will work smoothly.
And when we be able to see pokki app manager online?
