Stud poker is any poker variant in which the player receives a certain number of cards, some of them upside down and others face up, and perform multiple betting rounds. Another feature is that the player who starts betting is not always the same, but depends on the cards you have in each round. A face-down cards are known as hole cards or hole cards.
This variant of poker has its origin in the United States, where during the eighteenth century was discovered usual play poker three cards, a century later, during the Civil War, it became more popular five-card-stud poker . In recent years, curiously again a century later, it is discovered seven card stud poker which has become more popular in casinos and in home games.
The betting structure is usually seen influenced by the number of rounds, so when we play a game with four or fewer betting rounds not matter much if we play with or without betting limit or pot. But with five or more betting rounds there should be a limit or require a distributed (spread limit).
The Spread Limit means that in the final rounds usually increase the betting limit for the game more interesting and even more succulent pot. For example, for an item you can set a limit of 5 € for the first two rounds, 10 € for the following, and 20 € for the latest. The winner will be the one in the final round with the best hand, and in the event of a tie the pot is split.
Currently the most popular poker variants are usually found 7 card stud and 5 card stud.
