Theperk Chill Clip is able to apply shatter damage to a boss, and this Rocket has the best perk pairing for Chill Clip. It is recommended only 1 player in the group uses a Rocket with Chill Clip since there are diminishing returns to the perk and an excess of Chill Clip launchers pale in comparison to the higher-ranked Rockets on the list.
Chill Clip is a must-have in the 4th column if that was not clear from the previous section. The best perk to pair in the 3rd column is Field Prep. This gives excess ammo and increases reload speed greatly when crouched.
Clown Cartridge in the 4th column is why this rocket is on this list, so use it. Field Prep pairs perfectly with Clown Cartridge as this perk combo requires a reload, and Field Prep increases the reload speed when crouched. Auto-Loading Holster is a good perk for Rockets, but is not recommended as it does not activate Clown Cartridge.
The former de facto top Rocket in the game is now at #3. Although there are now 2 Rockets ahead of The Hothead, it is still a fantastic Rocket Launcher that is a great option for DPS. There are so many combinations that this Rocket can roll, allowing it to fit a plethora of playstyles.
Similar to Royal Entry the top combination is Field Prep and Clown Cartridge. In the 4th Column Explosive Light is a great perk for a boost to damage; unfortunately this does not give a damage boost to Wolfpack Rounds from Gjallarhorn.
Explosive Light opens up options in the 3rd column. Auto-Loading Holster and Demolitionist can be used with Explosive Light for alternative means of reloading. It is important to note that neither of those perks work with Clown Cartridge, so if you are using Clown Cartridge, pair it with Field Prep.
Legacy Gear Decoding at Zavala for 2 Vanguard Engrams, 25 Legendary Shards, and 10,000 Glimmer. The Adept version can be acquired when it is in the nightfall rotation. As of writing in Season of the Deep, The Hothead Adept is not in the rotation.
Apex is a very very close #2 on this list. Apex and the #1 Rocket are in a tier of their own due to access to the perk Bait and Switch. Not only is this the largest damage buff a Rocket Launcher can receive at 35%, but it also buffs the damage from Wolfpack Rounds. The main difference between Apex and the #1 Rocket lies in the 3rd column and the Origin Trait.
For the reasons mentioned in the previous section, Bait and Switch is the top option in the 4th column. Explosive Light is a potential alternative, but Bait and Switch is a clearly superior option. The most consistent and reliable perk in the 3rd column is Reconstruction. It essentially works the same as Auto-Loading Holster, but gives two rockets in the magazine.
This pairs very well with Bait and Switch because when you are utilizing your other two weapons to activate the damage perk, Reconstruction will be reloading the Rocket in the background. Slideways is a very unique 3rd column option that is rewarding, but quite difficult to use.
Its downsides are that it has a cooldown to how often the slide-reload can be activated, and your teammates will most likely hate you for sliding in front of them as they are shooting Rockets. Demolitionist is in this column as well to pair with builds that can get multiple grenades off during a damage phase.
Just like Apex Predator, Cold Comfort has access to Bait and Switch, the best damage perk for Rockets as it buffs the Rocket and Wolfpack Rounds by 35%. What puts Cold Comfort ahead of Apex is its 3rd Column perk in Envious Assassin and its Origin Trait in Restoration Ritual.
Envious Assassin allows you to store 3 shots in the magazine going into a damage phase and Restoration Ritual stores an auto reload after getting a revive or finisher. This lets you start off a damage phase with shooting 4 shots straight.
The previous section more or less gave away the best perks to get. Bait and Switch for the damage bonus, and Envious Assassin for storing up shots at the start of a damage phase. After the initial burst of 4 shots there are no weapon-specific means of reloading, but between how much initial DPS this roll has and the weapon having a 62 base Reload Speed this Rocket keeps up the best DPS of all the Rockets in the game
Rockets are still a top option in the DPS meta, and having a well-rolled Rocket Launcher is necessary for keeping up with new bosses that have higher and higher health pools. Look for any of these options to start putting out top damage numbers in your group.
With the various buffs they've received throughout Year 4, Rocket Launchers are finally in a good spot. These weapons can pull their weight in damaging hordes of minions and bosses alike. With the right perks and supporting mods, Rocket Launchers are too good to pass up. From Rocket Launchers with permanent damage boosts to those with absurd tracking, here are the ten best Rocket Launchers you can use in Destiny 2.
Updated August 25, 2023, by Charles Burgar: Season of the Witch added an amazing Strand Rocket Launcher to the sandbox that directly rivals Hothead and other top-tier picks. We've updated this list to include the Semiotician Rocket Launcher from this season and last season's Cold Comfort. Certain sections were also updated to reflect more recent DPS meta changes and general sandbox tweaks.
As great as that sounds, Deathbringer requires a spacious arena to fully ramp up its explosive projectiles, leading to awkward DPS phases if you're fighting in an enclosed space. More importantly, Deathbringer's projectiles can despawn if too many effects are happening. If your entire fireteam uses Deathbringer, your DPS will plummet. However, if just one person uses it, you'll be quite surprised just how powerful this Rocket Launcher can be.
When most people think of Rocket Launchers, they think of powerful Heavy weapons built to slay majors and bosses. Eyes of Tomorrow is a little different. The Deep Stone Crypt's Exotic Rocket Launcher is tuned for add clear more than boss DPS, but this weapon can still pack a serious punch when it needs to.
Eyes of Tomorrow locks onto targets before releasing six micro missiles, aggressively tracking anything it marked beforehand. Each individual missile doesn't do much damage, but they deal more than enough damage to kill fodder units. And if that swarm kills four targets, you'll get your rocket refunded and a noticeable damage buff on your next shot. This makes Eyes of Tomorrow a powerful add-clearing alternative to Machine Guns for loadouts that still need burst DPS. It's great for killing tankier adds, majors, Champions, and Guardians alike. Just don't expect to top the DPS charts in endgame PvE content.
Hezen Vengeance is one of Destiny 2's most versatile Rocket Launchers. PvE users have a wide range of reload and damage perks to choose from, and PvP players can use Tracking Module and Vorpal Weapon for a great counter to Supers. PvE is really where this weapon shines, however, as nearly every perk on this weapon is good.
The first column has great options like Auto-Loading Holster, Impulse Amplifier, and even Overflow. You can pair this with Lasting Impression for more damage, Vorpal Weapon for an unconditional damage bonus, or Demolitionist to weave your rockets with Starfire Protocol or similar ability builds. Simply put, Hezen Vengeance is a fantastic Rocket Launcher that's a solid alternative to Hothead.
It turns out that one of Destiny 2's best PvE Rocket Launchers isn't an Exotic, a raid weapon, or even a ritual weapon. It's Royal Entry, an ordinary Rocket Launcher that drops from Vanguard playlists. On the surface, it appears to be an ordinary Rocket Launcher, yet there are a few things that set it apart from its competition.
The most notable part of Royal Entry is that it's the only obtainable Void Rocket Launcher with Clown Cartridge. This means you can use Volatile Rounds on Royal Entry and Surge mods on a Void subclass to deal some absurd damage. Paired with Gjallarhorn, this gives Royal Entry some excellent burst DPS. You can then use Field Prep to increase your ammo reserves, or use Auto-Loading Holster to use this weapon alongside Izanagi's Burden or another Special DPS weapon. If you're looking for a good Void Rocket Launcher, Royal Entry is what you'll want. Crucible players are better off with another weapon.
Now that Two-Tailed Fox has an Exotic Catalyst, it has quickly become a top-tier option for PvE DPS. This weapon fires two rockets (three with the Catalyst) that fire in each Light element, inflicting Scorch, Suppression, and Jolt. The Arc rocket is the star of the show here, as the Jolt it inflicts is far stronger than what Arc subclasses can normally inflict.
It effectively acts as a debuff tool for your team, allowing your fireteam to trigger Jolt lightning repeatedly during a DPS phase for massive damage. You can also further boost Two-Tailed Fox's damage by playing a Void subclass and using Echo of Domineering, auto-loading the weapon when your Void rocket hits a target. This does have an internal cooldown, but this synergy is great for quickly killing Champions and other tough endgame foes.
Hothead is now obtainable through Vanguard Engram Focusing, and it's easily one of Destiny 2's strongest Rocket Launchers. This weapon has a fantastic perk pool that few Rocket Launchers can match, and it's fairly easy to obtain.
Arguably the most impressive roll for Hothead is Demolitionist and Clown Cartridge. Fire a rocket, throw a grenade, shoot another rocket, reload to fire two rockets, and repeat. It's one of the highest DPS weapons in the entire game. If you don't like Demolitionist, you can also farm for Field Prep instead. You can even obtain an Adept version of this weapon if you want to use Adept Big Ones Spec, giving The Hothead even more value against majors.
Semiotician is effectively a Strand version of Hothead. This High-Impact Frame Rocket Launcher has the incredibly strong perk combination of Field Prep and Bipod, the latter receiving a rather massive buff in Season of the Witch. This combination can hold a whopping 13 rockets in reserves and allows you to hit 100 reload speed with Alloy Casing as your magazine perk. It has the same gameplay loop as Hothead but with far higher total damage and the ability to benefit from Unraveling Rounds, further increasing its damage.
