I tried to install the AutoCAD 2017 student version, then after starting the setup.exe application, the software started downloading and installing, everything was fine until it was 100% done, i got an error message, the Autodesk Installer closed unexpectedly.
Download and install per:
1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

The crash report is showing a config/xml file that is usually linked to having service packs as part of your install but you are not even getting there. Can you go into your Windows Event log/application section and see if there are any warning/errors around the time this fails to start?
I turned off the UAC and disabled the antivirus, and ran the exe. file as administrator, and yet 'initializing' and after 5 seconds the installer closed itself. I even tried uninstalled the antivirus and tried it again, same problem.
When I looked up your error report it showed it being related to the DisplayLink USB conflict. If you look in Event Viewer under Windows Logs and Applications what Errors or Warnings are you seeing at the time the installer errors out.
However, I am constantly am bombarded with balloons in my notification tray to finish installation. I cannont find anything in the add/remove programs in the windows control panel that indicates that it is associated with Fusion so I can delete it. I want rid of this program and its reminders.
I'm sorry to hear that you don't want Fusion anymore. Just curious if there was any particular reason why?. It's sad to see you go but hopefully we can get rid of this pesky installer balloon with a clean uninstall!
A clean uninstall manually removes the folders that are created by Fusion 360 upon install. Unfortunately, the Windows Uninstaller does not always get rid of all the neccessary files/folders. The procedure for a clean uninstall can be found in the link below:
There is no 'do not want it anymore'. I have never wanted it, and have never installed it (that I am aware of). I installed the Product Design Suite on a brand new computer, and am pretty sure that nothing for Fusion was checked to be installed at that time, yet I still keep getting the balloon notification to finish installing the software that I do not want to install.
The reason why I do not want Fusion are many, the first, and least, of which is the convoluted way I have to go about getting authorization to install it. The process is ridiculous; either include it with the install media for my subscription, or don't. I don't really care, but once I have decided not to install it, leave it at that - quit bugging me about it. I've found the notification in the tray and told it 'No Thanks' many times, to no avail.
Third, I do not need cloud support. All of my work is done locally, then uploaded onto a secure Vault server set up by my client's ultra-strict IT and IT security departments, and cloud based storage is looked upon unfavorably at best, as a reason for termination at worst. We do not share our models or designs with others, except what can be handled through Vault, which they have set up and maintain. I signed in and used Autodesk 360 once, to see what it was about (using a personal drawing, not one of theirs), and was woefully underwhelmed.
Can you take a screenshot of the notification to download Fusion 360? It sounds like the application that may be doing this is called the Autodesk Application Manager. The Autodesk Application Manager updates all of the software included in an Autodesk suite (e.g. Produce Design Suite).
If you go to the processes tab of the task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC), can your right click on the InstallFusion360Tray.exe process and select Open File Location? What location is this file stored in? This may help us to determine the executable is related to.
First I followed the corrupted update instructions which kept leading me back to the infinite loading circle. I then followed the instructions for the damaged install. However it should be noted I could never find Autodesk Application Manager Service in the services list.
After completing the download loading bar, the install begins and abruptly closes. There is no Autodesk Desktop App anywhere on the machine to be found. I have left the PC for a few hours and seen no difference, I have attempted the install with my firewall also disabled etc. and have seen the same result.
I'm having precisely this same problem -- however installing it via the Windows Terminal per the method suggest isn't working. Because I don't know what I'm doing, I simply tried different numbers for the debuglevel switch -- and debuglevel 1 seems to do the trick.
How is this still an issue months on? I haven't been able to install the Autodesk Desktop App on my Windows 10 machine for months now. (It still works/installs fine on my Windows 7 PC. Imagine that.) I get the same problem as the OP had in this thread. I download the bootstrap file, let the download proceed, and when it gets to the installation, it just closes, every single time. I looked at a similar thread for this problem which was posted three years ago, and in it there was a link with troubleshooting steps advising the user to delete various registry entries and .xml and .ini files from all the AppData and ProgramData subfolders. -result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Install-Autodesk-Desktop...
I've gone through all of the steps in that, and it does no good. The same thing still happens. Download reaches 100%, install begins, then the Window closes and nothing ever happens again. There's no sign of Autodesk Desktop app in Control Panel or anywhere else.
So, is there no dedicated team at Autodesk working on issues with this particular app? As I said, this has been happening for several months. I'll periodically come back every so often to try installing it, and it's always the same thing.
Running the installer effectively via command line and reading the debug log files did solve this for me. I also understand that the solution did work for me, but may not work for others as this issue appears to be quite common. I was also contacted by a member of Autodesk beforehand who just went through those same delete registry and %programdata% files which I had already done and got me to uninstall and reinstall software. None of this worked, which lead me to hunt for the solution myself.
Personally having read the raw error logs of the installer, it appears the issue may be with the bitrock installer that Autodesk use to roll out their software. As it appears the installer is running a persistence in memory or somewhere. Of course without reading their raw source code of the packaging (which I will never see), you cannot view what the error message is assigned to. For those interested this the documentation that shows the raw error message of the installer.
It's good to have a little light shed on this by someone with more technical understanding than myself, even if it doesn't resolve the issue, because it reassures me that the problem arose through no fault of my own. Your insight is very appreciated.
Still baffled that a massive monopoly like autodesk can't even provide trouble shooting and rely solely on the backs of its users through a forum...its incredible...specially how many call centers there are...
I see so many issues that are tailored to a small percentage a people and after reading through many different problems/threads you will commonly only see 1 or 2 people where the issue was solved, and many people are left hanging.
i recently upgraded my OS to Win10 and tried to install the software. But every time i try to install the software, the installer for Acad2020 says that its already installed on my pc and it only lets me install the desktop app and performance tool, although the software is already removed from my drives. I tried removing the registry files and all the program data files and still the same issue. I just came across ur reply in the thread regarding the installer.lock. Do u think this is the issue and does it relate to me as well?
Could be. There are some other reasons this message is shown, but you can test it out pretty easy. While you are NOT installing check the path: C:\ProgramData for the file AdApplicationManager-installer.init.lock. If you can find it delete/rename it and try installing.
I would venture to say, who cares? If the DLL only gives elevated privileges to the installer, then the likelihood of it being exploited are probably approaching zero. If your users already have local admin rights, which they should, then I cannot foresee any circumstances where this exploit would gain any advantage.
