We did it!!
The SA Parliament has just voted for marine sanctuaries and marine life and against the Opposition’s Marine Parks Amendment bill!
This means that on 1 October South Australia gets its world-class marine parks network, with the most precious marine areas and unique marine life protected. How wonderful is that?
We’d like to say an enormous thank you to each of you for your support on this journey. There is no way we could have done this without you.
Also, special mention must be made of the efforts Ministers Geoff Brock and Martin Hamilton-Smith went to to listen to all sides in recent weeks. It was Minister Brock who ultimately voted against the bill, meaning that SA’s marine parks network is safe.
Please, it’s very important that we all show our support in a number of ways over the next few days. We’re hearing that those unhappy with today’s result have been asked to hit the airwaves and register their disappointment with Minister Brock.
1. Could you email Minister Brock now at geoff...@parliament.sa.gov. au thanking him?
2. Consider writing a short letter to the Advertiser adv...@theadvertiser.com.au, and phone in during Leon Byner’s program 5AA between 9am and 1pm on 8223 0000 voicing your support, and importantly thanking Minister Geoff Brock for his careful deliberation and leadership.
3. Share the news on social media. Our Facebook post on the win is here.
Thank you again.
