“HOPE IN DEEP DECEMBER”
A poetic exploration of the light of hope that breaks through the darkest of nights.
Sunday afternoon, December 13, 2-4 p.m.
December 2020 will be different.
Usually, as the year draws to a close, religious observances converge with cultural celebrations
of warmth, joy, and gift-giving.
Many of us would get together with loved ones at year’s end
and light candles against the falling chill and darkness
for Hannukah, Christmas, Winter Solstice, or Kwanzaa.
December 2020 will be different.
The pandemic is quashing plans for family meals and gatherings of friends.
But we can still light candles—literally and symbolically.
We can turn to sources of wisdom and inspiration
that do not downplay the cold and the bleakness of life
while they nevertheless stoke the glowing embers of hope.
You are invited to “Hope In Deep December.”
Benicia’s Poet Laureate, Mary Susan Gast, will join with
Vallejo Poets Laureate Emeritae, D.L. Lang and Genea Brice,
in an opening presentation drawn from Jewish and Christian traditions.
Then it’s your turn to present poetry of hope from any tradition or from no tradition at all.
Sign up to present a poem of hope: email poetlaure...@gmail.com
The first 15 to respond will be designated to read their poems.
Everyone is welcome to attend. No RSVP required.
Zoom information to follow.
