Happy Summer, Poetry Lovers!
UPCOMING FOR ALL OUR ZOOM FRIENDS:
We will have 2 FREE workshops in the fall for all those across the state and country who stay connected to us on Poetry Notes. In the early fall, Audrey Williams will lead us in a workshop about a variety of ways to use poetry for personal wellness. In November, joined by her musical friends, Gail Wasserman will teach us techniques for combining our lyrical poetry with musical notes in a music writing workshop. Stay tuned for details in the September Newsletter.
UPCOMING FOR ALL OUR LOCAL FRIENDS:
We are having a POETS’ PICNIC on Sunday, AUGUST 4, 12:30- 2:30, at the Benicia City Park, at the corner of Military and First St! We have reserved picnic tables, but you might want to bring chairs to listen to the Open Mic after we eat and socialize together. Bring your lunch and your poems and any interested friends and family. Water and cookies provided.
This picnic was traditional before Covid, when other First Tuesday Poetry activities took a break in the summer. A survey of those who come to the Open Mic at the Library did not show there was enough availability on the part of poets to sustain the evening Open Mic program in July and August. SO WE WILL NOT meet on July 2 or August 6 at the Library. The hope is that the picnic will be a pleasant interlude to keep us connected, and keep up with some wonderful poetry we create over the summer.
As far as the re-occurring programs I usually put in the Newsletter, be sure to contact them to see if they are continuing throughout the summer - I do not have updates on which ones are taking a break. The online poetry programs tend to continue, although they may alter their format.
There will probably be a launch of “Unsettled,” the Poetry Anthology to which many of us contributed, sometime in August. When Benicia Literary Arts finalizes the date, I will forward the info.
Happy Reading and Writing,
Kathy
