Dear Friends of Poetry,

This is a special edition of our monthly poetry newsletter.

The BENICIA LOVE POETRY CONTEST 2024 is in the rear view mirror, but it is also RECORDED and can be viewed online at BeniciaLiteraryArts.org website!  It starts with the introductory comments and then moves to having the 6 Honorable Mention poems read, usually by their poet, followed by the third, second and first prize winners, reading theirs.

The plethora of wonderful poems created a hard task for the judges.  And you can witness that yourself by continuing to listen to more than two dozen poems read by their authors.  A very special time it was!

Some June events which did not make it in time for my previous newsletter:

JUNE 18:  I am honored to be asked to read my poem, “Perseverance,” at the Benicia City Council meeting next Tuesday shortly after 6 pm.  The meeting is broadcast on Zoom. This poem was written to honor Harold Bray, the last living survivor of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in WW II, the worst naval disaster in US history.  The poem is going through the approval steps by the military to be engraved on a plaque on his recently installed statue.

The public may view and participate (via computer or phone) link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88508047557?pwd=cHRsZlBrYlphU3pkODcycytmcFR2UT0

JUNE 14:  THE SOLANO COUNTY FAIR is on this weekend!  Come see the display of contest poems in the Fine Arts Building and listen to the poetry of DL Lang, J. Eyvonne and K Herrmann 1:15- 1:45 Bay Area Stage.

JUNE 15 and JUNE 23:  Brush Strokes for the Earth, an exhibit on climate change at the Vallejo Center for the Arts, 707 Marin St., will feature Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann reading themed poetry 1-2 pm.

JUNE 24:  After a successful inaugural event, SHUT UP AND WRITE will be meeting again at the Benicia Library, 6:30-8:30, for an evening of focused but private writing in a dedicated space and time slot with fellow authors/memoirist/poets.  All welcome.

JUNE 30:  RESCHEDULED HIKE AND WRITE on part of the Solano County Land Trust from 2-4.  See details on the website for Suzanne Bruce Poet Laureate (Fairfield).

Bears repeating:

JUNE 15:  The book launch for the Anthology CARQUINEZ REVIEW 2024 will be at Arts Benicia, Commanding Officers Quarters, 1 Commandant’s Lane, Benicia, from 2-4 pm.

JUNE 27:   OZCAT RADIO regularly hosts ART Beat featuring local poets reading on air from 10:30- 11:30 am every 4th Thursday.  Tune in on the app TUNE IN RADIO.

JUNE 29:  WRITING FROM YOUR SOUL is an event featuring poet and cellist Diane Frank at the Fairfield Cordelia Library 1-3 pm.  The second hour will be an open mic.
