Zohreh Zadbood
Calling All Poets Series

TOMORROW!

Thursday, Feb 19

ON ZOOM

Zohreh Zadbood

I'm an Iranian writer, poet, photographer and new media artist who brings stories to life through narratives across various platforms. I specialize in writing fiction, screenplay and poetry, doing Photography, and orchestrating digital media that enhance storytelling impact.

Currently, I'm working on my solo interdisciplinary exhibition where I blend poetry and photography. Moreover, I'm working on my forthcoming novel and debut poetry collection. Recently, my poem was accepted for the forthcoming Summer 2025 issue of The Kenyon Review, which was a great milestone. In my writing I explore themes of love, healing, homesickness, self-love and solidarity.

My work has been featured in various publications such as Los Angeles Press and Coalition and showcased in exhibitions in New York and London.

In addition to my literary and visual artistry, My dedication to environmental causes reflected on my photo collection titled "Beneath the Blooms: Capturing Nature's Delicate Splendor." This collection was featured on the 'Elizabeth Street Garden' official website, contributing to the important cause of protecting this cherished garden.

My name, Zohreh, holds a special place in classical Persian poetry, where it symbolizes the planet Venus—an iconic representation of the lover. This profound connection, discovered later in my journey after I began writing about love as a teenager, continues to inspire my work to this day.

We regularly feature known and unknown poets of all kinds. We love our open mic and the incredible talent that regularly emerges there. Whether you are a Pushcart winner or a new voice at your first reading, CAPS is the home for you!

Fred Poole's Skyrocket Dive

I’m praying for you,
I sometimes say on Facebook
Not praying for myself
Which I almost never do,
Except here on Facebook,
Where I say,
“I do not want to die”
But I pray for more than that,
And I can be more specific,
As in “Please God help me
Find my iPhone”
Which is something I say
More than once in any day
While outside my window another snowfall
And birds seem to get bigger
I mean the big black ones
That are surely ravens.
Over and over I lose things,
And pray for their reappearance
Much like losing my way on
A forest path
Or in a city
Or in what I thought of as home.

Poetry 2020

“I have been wowed time and again by the poets and the poetry of my beloved Hudson Valley. What you hold in your hands is but the tip of a glorious iceberg, but what a refreshing tip it is!”

— John Leonard Pielmeier,
actor, poet, playwright
(
Agnes of God, The Exorcist)

Exhibition catalog for the Ekphrasis 2020 show at the Roost Gallery (New Paltz).

In 2020 with Calling All Poets embarked on its twenty-first year and our second joint collaborative Ekphrasis project with the multi-disciplined, multi-talented members of Roost Studios. Our first Ekphrasis exhibit and publication in 2017 inspired several artists and poets from across the Hudson Valley and New York City to stage their own exhibits and programs of art responding to poetry and vice versa.

Art inspires art. It’s what makes life livable and the spirit soar.
