Poets in the Park, 2022: 

Reading on July 9


Poets in the Park is celebrating over 30 years of bringing poetry in July to the Robert Burns statue in Washington Park, Albany, NY.  The series was started in 1989 by the late Tom Nattell and is now run by Albany poet & photographer Dan Wilcox.   This year the readings will be on Saturdays July 9, 16 & 30; the readings start at 7:00 PM & are free & open to the public; donations are accepted.  In case of rain the reading will be held at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany.

The readers on July 9 are:

  • Winners of the Tom Nattell Peace Poetry Prize
    The Tom Nattell Peace Poetry Prize is awarded each year to a student, or students, at Albany High School for original poems they have written. The awardees this year are: Jena Maria Rubi, Aliyah Rivera, and Josephine Pobee-Mensah
  • Naomi Bindman
    Naomi Bindman is an award-winning educator who lives in Vermont. She earned her BA from Dartmouth College, and her Master’s from Harvard University. Naomi is a past president of SolarFest, a nationally known music and renewable energy education festival. Naomi has published articles, essays and poetry in the Bennington BannerHealing OptionsVTDiggerMothering magazine, So to Speak: Feminist Journal of Language and Art, and in an International Women’s Day anthology. She is the recipient of a Vermont Arts Council grant, and has just written her first book, You’re the Words I Sing: A Memoir of Song, Sorrow, and Solace.

The Robert Burns statue is located near where Henry Johnson Blvd. passes through Washington Park and crosses Hudson Ave.  Please bring your own chairs or blankets to sit on.
