If you can't get to NYC, there will be a similar memorial held in Albany with two back-to-back UAlbany English Department events coming up on Saturday, September 27 in honor of Pierre Joris as part of the Albany Book Festival.

PIERRE JORIS Poasis & Beyond: Always the Many 

Part 1 - PANEL 4:00-5:30 p.m. in UAlbany Campus Center Auditorium, as part of NYSWI Bookfest. Sponsored by NYSWI and UAlbany Department of English. 

A conversation on the legacy, influence, and enduring vitality of Joris’ work across poetry, translation, and intellectual inquiry. Poets, scholars, and collaborators reflect on his expansive thinking and deep commitment to poiesis. Panelists: Eric Keenaghan, Yolande Schutter, Randall Horton, and Urayoan Noel. 

Part 2 - READING & PERFORMANCE 6:30 p.m. in UAlbany Campus Center Multipurpose Room following a reception at 5:30 p.m. Hosted by the UAlbany Department of English with support from NYSWI. 

An evening of readings, performances, and remembrances by poets across generations— former students, longtime colleagues, and the students of those students—gathered to honor the life, voice, and ever-evolving presence of Pierre Joris, alongside his son, filmmaker Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, and his wife and longtime collaborator, artist Nicole Peyrafitte.
