Matthew Layne
Poet, librarian, raconteur; Matt Layne has been poking hornet's nests and looking under rocks for lizards and snakes since he was knee-high to a peanut peg. A founding member of the 1990s improvisational poetry collective, The Kevorkian Skull poets, Layne believes in the radical transformative power found in the intersection of poetry and art, and he wants you to write your truth and share it out loud. A multiple Hackney Award winning writer, he has also been recognized by the National Society of Arts and Letters and been featured in Peek Magazine, Birmingham Arts Journal, Steel Toe Review, B-Metro, and elsewhere. Look for him at your local library.
We regularly feature known and unknown poets of all kinds. We love our open mic and the incredible talent that regularly emerges there. Whether you are a Pushcart winner or a new voice at your first reading, CAPS is the home for you!

Fred Poole's Skyrocket Dive
I’m praying for you,
I sometimes say on Facebook
Not praying for myself
Which I almost never do,
Except here on Facebook,
Where I say,
“I do not want to die”
But I pray for more than that,
And I can be more specific,
As in “Please God help me
Find my iPhone”
Which is something I say
More than once in any day
While outside my window another snowfall
And birds seem to get bigger
I mean the big black ones
That are surely ravens.
Over and over I lose things,
And pray for their reappearance
Much like losing my way on
A forest path
Or in a city
Or in what I thought of as home.

CAPS ANTHOLOGY
Poetry 2020
“I have been wowed time and again by the poets and the poetry of my beloved Hudson Valley. What you hold in your hands is but the tip of a glorious iceberg, but what a refreshing tip it is!”
— John Leonard Pielmeier,
actor, poet, playwright
(Agnes of God, The Exorcist)

Exhibition catalog for the Ekphrasis 2020 show at the Roost Gallery (New Paltz).
In 2020 with Calling All Poets embarked on its twenty-first year and our second joint collaborative Ekphrasis project with the multi-disciplined, multi-talented members of Roost Studios. Our first Ekphrasis exhibit and publication in 2017 inspired several artists and poets from across the Hudson Valley and New York City to stage their own exhibits and programs of art responding to poetry and vice versa.
Art inspires art. It’s what makes life livable and the spirit soar.
