Natalya Sukhonos will read

at the Social Justice Center

Thursday, June 18, 7:30PM


Poet Natalya Sukhonos will read from her work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany, NY on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 7:30PM, with an open mic for community writers.  


A native of Odesa, Ukraine, Natalya Sukhonos is multilingual, speaking seven languages. She holds a PhD from Harvard University. Natalya was a finalist for the June 2025 reading period of the Black Lawrence Immigrant Writing Series. Her book Parachute came out in 2016 and A Stranger Home in 2020. Natalya loves to experiment with poetic forms, space on the page & multilingual writing. Sunlight Trapped in Stone (Green Writers Press, 2026) is her third book.


A reading by a local or regional poet/writer has been held since July 2006 each third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7:00PM, with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $5.00, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation, and the work of the Social Justice Center.
