Concurrence

Each day's terror, almost
a form of boredom-- madmen
at the wheel and
stepping on the gas and
the brakes no good --
and each day one,
sometimes two, morning-glories,
faultless, blue, blue sometimes
flecked with magenta, each
lit from within with
the first sunlight.

Makes me think of this companion poem by Rumi:

Today like every other day
We wake up empty and scared
Don't open the door of your study
And begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument
let the beauty we love be what we do
There are hundreds of way to kneel
And kiss the earth.

Blessings.

Thanks Ken and Jai,
NYC is full of those impatient drivers

Thanks, Ken -

Last year, I wrote a poem in response to this poem of Denise Levertov’s…

Here it is:

MISBEHAVIOR

— for Denise Levertov

A morning glory opens its face
of blue fringed with white.
This might be thought of as a behavior,
inspired by the sun.
If so, the mob of morning
glories that overtook
my beans and squash
late last summer
behaved badly.
O, this valiant tropism of life!
O, these stunning miscreants trampling plans!
Spreading their blues and magentas
In spite of the best efforts of madmen.

That's a beaut, Lauren, thank you!

What great images...."mob of morning glories....beans and squash behaving badly....stunning miscreants.....best efforts of madmen".

And one doesn't hear many more noble-sounding oaths than "O, this valiant tropism of life!"

Please continue to misbehave in this manner.
