The Town Cryer

I sell clouds of colors,
Ellipses, reddened
To temper the heat!

I sell purple cirrus,
And pink, dawns
And golden sunsets!

The yellow star
Of the heavenly peach
Caught in the green branches,

I sell the snow, the flame,
And the song of the crier.

Rafael Alberti

El pregón

Vendo nubes de colores:
las redondas,
las arreboladas,
para templar el calor.

Vendo los cirros malvas,
los celestes y rosados,
las auroras
y los ocasos dorados.

Vendo la estrella amarilla
del melocotón celeste
prendida en la rama verde.

Vendo la nieve, la llama
y el canto del pregonero.

Rafael Alberti
