From our very own Marvin

Man and Boy

He was wearing a white shirt
sleeves rolled up to the elbows
just enough to tell the world
this was not hard work
sitting in a rowboat
dipping the oars
into the still lake
into the August afternoon...

where had he learned that...
that circular motion with the wrists
dipping....lifting
the boat cutting smoothly
through the water's brightness..

I waited for the bump
the boat would make
drifting towards the dock..
I was seven:
"here, take the rope" he said
then showed me how to make
a sailor's knot.
