If You Spill a Dragon
by Robert Moss

If you spill a dragon,
don't think about washing the tablecloth.
Everything interesting happens on the boundaries
and when you are real, shabbiness doesn't matter.

You can't see the whole picture when you're in it
and inside the soft animal of your body, you forget
that you are a star that came down because
you wanted a messier kind of love.

Everyone has their own sky and their own trail
but directions don't work unless you know your destination.
Instead of maps, use clues falling through the curtain
of your constructed world.

A dream is a clickable link to the multiverse.
Horses always know who's really in charge.
Blackbirds speak truth and there are grandmothers
wherever you look.

Follow your heart-light but wear a mirror on your back.
Check your crystal ball for malingering imps
and watch out for the Emperor of Enchantments
who traps lost souls in palaces of illusion.

What you most fear is what you most need to do.
Shake coincidence on drab days like quick curry sauce.
When the dragon cracks the wineglass of your life
flaunt the biggest stain as your banner.
