HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g.....Recently Web Apps on Printer failed to work, Wired Network Connection is good, I factory reset the printer and tried a firmware update check. It failed. On the software page for the printer, I found new firmware was issued 31st October 2020 ( v 2011A). I download this and ran it. The software detected my printer and displayed the Serial Number. However, I could not mark the printer for update as it was greyed out saying 'not applicable' . My current firmware is showing as CKP1CN1829AR FW patch version 16. Can someone Please help. I used to web apps regularly. I am stuck.

In the dynamic landscape of printer technology, users often encounter challenges when integrating third-party ink cartridges into their systems. A recent discussion on the BCH Technologies forum shed light on an issue faced by a user with an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a (CM749A) printer, dating back to a 2014 firmware version (CLP1CN1435AR). The user reported difficulties connecting the printer to a new wireless router with PMF (Protected Management Frames) function enabled. Seeking a solution, an official HP document suggested a firmware update.

The primary concern voiced by the user was whether a firmware update would render the installed third-party refillable cartridges purchased from AliExpress unusable. A fellow forum member expressed the likelihood of such an outcome and recommended sticking to a cable connection as a workaround.

The discussion highlighted a potential conflict in information. Another user pointed out that, especially in a corporate network setting, the use of refillable or third-party cartridges might be discouraged. Furthermore, the discussion steered towards the preference for LAN connections over WLAN for printing, with the suggestion to utilize USB print servers for devices lacking direct LAN connections.

Branding practices by HP in the UK came under scrutiny in the conversation, with mention of "dynamic security" featured on their printer boxes. This term implies that, without opting for HP's 'instant ink' subscription plan, the printer may communicate with the manufacturer, allowing them to push firmware updates that could potentially block the usage of third-party cartridges.

[German]Printer manufacturer Hewlett Packard has released a (new?) firmware update (September 13, 2017) for its Officejet models. After installation, the devices will no longer accept non HP ink cartridges. Here is some information about how to fix this.

That's what I call a dj vu: Almost exactly one year ago, on September 19, 2016, I had published the blog post HP printer firmware disables refill ink cartridges. After a shitstorm HP and provided a correction firmware for the devices, allowing non HP ink cartridges from third-party suppliers to be used again.

Addendum: I don't know, whether the firmware update was new or wether it's just a re-release. What the vendor observed: Some HP printers are receiving a firmware update, and suddenly they are refusing to accept third party ink cartriges. According to German vendor superpatronen.de (German) the following HP printer models are affected:

The US HP support page addresses the issue. HP's new firmware update seems to force HP's Dynamic Security Feature to block non HP cartridges. A description of this feature may be found here. But there is a fix.

Addendum: There is now an article at ibtimes.co.uk, citing my blog post and also mentions user posts in HP's forums. So I searched the Web and came across this post from 09-15-2017. A user claims, that his Office jet pro 8500A refuses third party ink cartridges. An HP Expert says 'The Officejet 8500 never had the issue with 3rd party ink.'. The user bought some original HP ink cartriges and the printer works. Now the customer has the difficulty, to tell the printer, that he has never been affected by third party ink cartriges ;-).

This printer model appears on the superpatronem list that you quote above, but it does *not* appear in the list of models that have received HP's updated firmware (those start from 8610 onwards). Does this mean that HP have hung me (and all other 8600 owners) out to dry?

Is anyone else having a problem to instal HP's "fixed" firmware? When I try to do it, I can't tick the box, because the program claims, that my printer is on the current software, but it still does not accept my third party cartriges, that were accepted before the last Update.
+ The "fixed" firmware from HP has the Version number R1739A, whilst my printer apparently hat R1739AR.
Did HP just silently roll out another blocking update???

This appears to have happened to my HP Photosmart C4580 printer / scanner. I have not used it to print for a while and replaced the dried out cartridges with some new non HP ones (possibly refilled ones). I did the alignment as requested and then It immediately started to play up, printed 1 x A4 colour picture but then refused and started coming up with various error messages and just stopped working. Changed the cartridges for some empty HP ones and it seems to like them. HP cartidges are silly money so I tend to use refilled or non HP ones. Sometimes I refill them myself. Can HP actually change the firmware in my printer via the USB port or do they do it via the print driver ? The scanner works OK thank goodness.

I have the same problem with my Hp Pagewide pro 452dw.
I am in Livingstone, Zambia
I bought it in August 2016 from UK and ordered and fitted a CISS. It worked fine until after almost a year the printhead had a problem. As it was still under warranty I was given a replacement printer.
In March 2018 it suddenly rejected the CISS cartridges. The CISS supplier told me that the system was not intended for this printer although the cartridges are the same, because they have not yet managed to overcome HP's blocking.
I understand that in March HP installed a new firmwareno. 1743A on my printer which blocked non-original cartridges.
I have read that with the previously blocked printers, after complaints HP released a firmware that did not block cartridges.
Is anyone fighting for this to be done for Pagewide printers?
I would not have bought this printer if I had known this was going to happen. In Zambia these cartridges are not available and importing them is very expensive, I do a lot of printing for charitable organisations so the cost of ink is critical.

I bought an HP Office Jet Pro 7720 3 weeks ago and as soon as I ran out of HP cartridges and tried to use compatible ones, my printer rejected them and it is now inoperable.
Spoke to HP yesterday and they informed me that the printer will only accept HP cartridges and there is nothing I can do about it.
Is this correct?

folks, disable HP web services if your HP printer is connected to the internet with either a wired ethernet/LAN connection or wireless WLAN (WiFi) connection. HP printers silently download & install firmware updates without any user knowledge (when HP web services is enabled which will do automatic updates) and may install updated firmware that may block non-HP ink cartridges.

I followed the same method as Daniel with HP 8500a Pro,
Did a full reset factory , followed this video =3703 in german ( i don't speack german) but we can understand ,
now still can't print due to non original cartridge , when i print the document is empty.
I think this is the last time that i use a HP printer,
I will search for a new one where we can use non original cartridges.
Any help ? it will appreciated
Regards,

Have HP8600 and HP8610. One has a bad printhead. Can exchange good printhead between both and they will both work. Bought new printhead and recieved "missing, not detected or incorerectly installed" error. Tried everything without success. Was able to return printhead. Bought another printhead from other seller. Same problem! Now what HP??????

My experience as well. Have two of these printers. One works, one doesn't. Changing the good printhead to the other printer makes the error go away on the other. This is a printhead hardware failure, hands down. Haven't used OEM ink for years -- WAY overpriced. I also bought the eBay replacement printhead from China and it doesn't work. I'm assuming the sellers are collecting broken printheads that look good and calling them new?

I have the HP Officejet 8600 Pro, the first problem started with low yellow ink, I replaced then received error for other colors. I done everything everyone else had done but not luck. I bought a new print head, then received print head not detected. Put old print head and it's detected but shows bad ink cartridge despite being new from HP. So I took the top spring loaded ink holder from new print head and put that in my old print head and it worked.

Did everything, bought cleaning solution, did all of that, received same message. I gave up spent too much money afraid to order a new original print head, way too much money, therefore I bought another cheaper HP printer. It sucks really! Not too much help from HP!

Michael must be an hp as agent. I Still believe that the firmware updates hp sneak in on an unattended printer through the night is the chief cause of failure on both my identical 6960 printers purchased same day in 2017 (one I put into storage 2020 after putting my dad to rest) other worked great until I started letting it "take care of itself" update wise. I had always used hp juice bottles until the price nearly doubled. For a year after 2 sets were quality refills then FIRMWARE update, funny all my apps onboard died that update then 3 days later cartridge error messages then carrier mysteriously started jamming , lost sync. 2x fixed in 3 weeks, then 3 error messages the printer got tossed through the window into the neighbors yard. Started using stored printer. Wouldn't allow updates until I was in a rush and clicked "update YES" in 2 wks the neighbor got 2nd printer via my air mail. NEVER AGAIN ANY (H-iddous P-roduct) on my list. SIEG HEILS, und ya, dummkopf I did click my heels you HP bastards!
