Ijust bought a new pc that has windows 10 home on it. I have my product key for windows server essentials. How do I install the OS windows server essentials on this pc? Can I create installation media from the microsoft website? Where is the ISO located? Is there a link online that I can go to to download the software to a usb?
Since Windows 10 home could not enable hyper-V to create a VM, we could prepare another new hard disk drive for installing the Windows Server 2019 Essential on the PC. By this way, we could keep the original Windows 10 home system in the old drive.
After creating the USB key, you could plug the USB to your new PC. If your BIOS settings are properly set-up, the computer will directly boot to the Windows Server 2019 Essential installation screen.
In most cases, Dell PowerEdge servers are shipped with the Operating System pre-installed. Except if it has been optionally ordered, the Windows Server media is not included in the package.
If you want to reinstall a Windows Server OS on your PowerEdge, but you lost or do not have the original Windows installation media at hand, you can download the matching ISO-file directly from the Microsoft website (after filling the registration form).
These versions will start in trial mode and can be activated with an OEM Serial Key.
With servers though you gotta watch that your RAID controller is supported. You may need extra installer drivers for the controller otherwise (most period specific RAID controllers are supported by the install media, but check with your hardware vendor if they have OS install drivers).
We require Media Foundation which comes standard with most versions of Windows, but which needs to be installed via the Media Pack for Windows N, Windows K, and the various versions of Windows Server.
Problem though is my Remotes can see the core but failing to connect. Pretty sure this is a firewall issue. Installed a remote on the same pc running the core and playback is great with little cpu overhead.
I have added Roon apps found in appdata/Local/RoonServer to firewall rules both inbound and outbound, no success. Can you please point me to which .exe or ports to added to firewall to allow my remotes to connect.

Step 1: Press Windows key + X on your keyboard and click on Control Panel.
Step 2: Click on System and Security.
Step 3: Click on Windows Firewall.
Step 4: Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off.[/quote]
The Windows Firewall is included in every Windows operating system to keep our computer safe from bad guys. However, if you are using Windows Server 2016 in your data center, you may be using a dedicated firewall as replacement. It
@support Need to update the KB article to reflect that no media pack installation is needed for Windows Server 2016.
The only role I added is File and Storage services.
Installed driver for my graphics card, drivers for my dac and all is well.
I have an HP server that came with an OEM copy of Windows Server 2008. I have installed CentOS 5.4 on the hardware and am trying to install Windows Server 2008 as a KVM guest. When I attempt to install Windows Server 2008 it complains that I am trying to install on unsupported hardware. This issue is caused because the hardware SMBIOS information is not being passed to the KVM guest.
Before I go any further I want to state that what I am trying to do is within the license. HP offers a supported solution for VMWare but does not have an official solution for KVM. After much research the platform I am going to use is CentOS and KVM so please do not suggest other platforms.
Looks like CentOS 5.4 uses virt-install instead of qemu. Qemu is in the package manager and I was able to install it after uninstalling qemu-img (they conflict and qemu contains the packages in qemu-img). So now I know how to pass the acpitable parameters, but I am having trouble mapping what came out of dmidecode into -acpitable.
The problem with branded media is that KVM's BIOS VM ships with diffrent ACPI tables. Installer on the other hand validates it. In the time of writing this I am using Debian 8 with virtlib 1.2.9 and qemu-system-x86 1.7.0 (qemu-kvm).
It'll work for Windows 2008/2012 branded media. It's very important to check if those arguments are passed correctly, check VM's log in : /var/log/libvirt/vm_name.log. Run some live distro in VM, for example sysresccd and check output of dmidecode -t 0; dmidecode -t 1 it must match with hardware version.
Unfortunately the answer involving the Windows signed drivers does not reflect the OEM / SLP activation. These drivers may improve performance but the Windows OEM / SLP activation strictly involves data stored in the BIOS, specifically the ACPI tables.
Michael Tokarev was able to do this himself through modifying the source to include the SLIC table in the whole table format but he also mentions that this can be done using several options to -acpitable ( -kvm/2010/3/24/6260060). The change he made to the source simply allowed him to include an entire ACPI table instead of passing several arguments to include different aspects of it on the command line.
I am looking into this myself now as I would like to implement this for testing purposes on some setups in our office. We have a lot of OEM machines and we can install fine on each machine but virtualization gives a lot of benefits for testing as well as very rapid deployment so I would like to see this through.
I would like to the OP of this post, rancidfishbreath, what he extracted from dmidecode, how he formatted this in the options he gave kvm, etc. If you can add any input the developers gave you on this, I would appreciate it.
Windows Server operating systems include many optional components. Including all optional components in each Amazon EC2 Windows Server AMI is not practical. Instead, we provide you with installation media EBS snapshots that have the necessary files to configure or install components on your Windows instance.
For Availability Zone, select the Availability Zone that matches your Windows instance. Choose Add tag and enter Name for the tag key and a descriptive name for the tag value. Choose Create volume.
(Optional) When you are finished with the installation media, use the detach-volume command to detach the volume from your instance. After you detach the volume, you can use the delete-volume command to delete the volume.
(Optional) When you are finished with the installation media, use the Dismount-EC2Volume cmdlet to detach the volume from your instance. After you detach the volume, you can use the Remove-EC2Volume cmdlet to delete the volume.
i tried to enter "intelligent privsioning" by pressing "f10"-key: this brings me to a screen where i can choose between "self update" and "fallback". fallback seems to be a bootloader entry that tries to boot a linux kernel that ends up after 1.1seconds in a kernel panic as it was not able to mount root filesystem and "self update" boots a working linux kernel that tries to install a gaius.3.50-100.x86_64.rpm. i assume it therefore needs network connectivity so i connected (the first) ethernet port to a standard "home-network (dhcp), nat" but it stalls keep saying it installs that rpm file (has been running for days without changing any status).
HPE, first. please provide a better web portal that clearly describes which downloadable files (bios, intelligent provisioning, ...) should be used in order to update the system (have a look at
supermicro.com how this could be achieved). and btw, please speed up your webservers....
HPE, please provide driver downloads for customers that do not want to relay on your propritary "intelligent provisioning" (that breaks) in order to still enable classic installs (just by inserting dvd/usb and running a clean install)
HPE, please provide more status and esp. progress ouput if you try to download files programatically by your setup scripts. running a download without asking for network connectivity and then trying to downloading a file that is about half gigabyte in size without displaying progress is sooo 1990. we're in 2021 now.
HPE, first, i ordered this server w/o iLO 5 enable pci express card, as it was hard to me (even if we do servers since 1995) to fire out that iLO won't work without this card, so i assumed iLO will work (but will not have a dedicated ethernet port, so shared among others). it's even possible to configure network (ip, subnet, gateway, ...) within iLO bios config but .... the configuration gets lost without a single note that you have to buy that enabler pci express card. HPE, it took me half a day to figure out that it's not that buggy as "intelligent provisioning" but you want me to pay $100 extra to persist my network config within iLO. you can have $200 if you disable iLO option within bios saying "put some more money in to get this feature activated"
HPE, never ever again a microserver. it's my 4th in the last decade and its still pain/ass. why can't you go slimmer? why "intelligent provisioning"? i'd like to run a raid setup within ncurses-like mode, no embedded web-browser that tries to hide some htpp://localhost services.
I've tried to update firmware via Intelligent Provisioning. The progress bar was stuck at 20% for 20-30 minutes, just saying "Downloading", and suddenly finished and asked me to reboot. Now I've rebooted, and got the same options as you "Self update" or "Fallback". I chose "Self update", and now I'm waiting for "gaius-3.50-100.x86_64.rpm to install, but I have no progress bar.
i had expected to quickly install a native version of windows server 2019, as this is the current server os from microsoft but without having a usable version of "intelligent provisioning" one has to run a classic install but cannot use smart array features as raid1, which sucks, of course.
i lost about half a day trying to set an ilo ip address which is actually possible but then looses it's configuration after reboot. after playing some hours i figured out that one has to buy that ilo enabler pci express card, which is totally ok so it's ok to spend some more money to get ilo remote console BUT its totaly inacceptable to provide configuration options to users and tell the users "config saved, please reboot" (or similar) and then do not persist configuration. i spent hours to figure out that this is a (anti) "feature", not a bug.
