Per our discussions over the past two weeks or so, I've implemented a
system to support people who need to find someone to record a tape
sync. This is *not* (yet) a released/supported/public feature of
PodCorps.org. For now it's just for testing and your feedback.
You'd be doing me a huge favor it if you would check it out, kick the
tires, and let me know (here, on this list) what you think. Does the
application work okay for you? How could it be improved? Would you, as
a PodCorps.org stringer, use it and do tape syncs either for $$ or for
free? If you're a public-radio professional, do you think a system
like this would be helpful in your world?
(If there are any formatting/layout problems, please let me know your
operating system and browser.)
1. First, edit your own profile and check the box that says "I am
available to record audio tape syncs." Please check this box even if
you have no interest in recording tape syncs. I need to see how the
system will work when we *do* have people who can do this. You'll be
able to un-check the box before we go live.
2. You can't get to the tape sync stuff from the menu system yet,
because I don't want everyone to see it until we're ready to roll it
out. But if you go to this URL, you should be able to get to all the
required pages.
http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/podcorps/tapesync
or http://tinyurl.com/2h7dqp
3. Create a few fake tape sync requests for yourself, then try to find
a stringer who can record them for you. If you create one near your
own location, you should at least be able to find yourself.
Play around and let me know!
Thanks.

I then went to the list of requests and opened the request I created.
None of the buttons at the bottom of the screen apart from "list"
worked for me.
I'm using Safari 2 on a OSX 10.4.10 Macbook.
Less critically, I also managed to create a sync request that was
already past.

Can you tell me what you entered as far as location data? And when you
say it didn't work, in what manner? Was there an error message or did
it just leave the fields empty? I think the key is to know what you
entered.
I'll check out the rest of the issues using Safari.

in the meantime, I suggest Firefox for testing, since that's what I
used for development.

The system located my name for the Seattle request, NP. Tested the e-
mail/notification function for both request but have not received the
request for the Seattle project.
The other e-mail/notification was sent to a different stringer that
the system located after plugging in various radius miles before
finding a stringer. 50, 100, 250 and 1,000 radius miles. Bingo! 1,000
found two stringers.
I came across one issue, for the Las Vegas request the system could
not locate/calculate the Latitude/Longitude location unless I removed
the physical street address. It work with city, state and zip code.
It seemed easy enough to navigate. Keep up the good work.
Make it a GREAT day!

I entered a job and tried the search using the "both" button.
I got a blank page back.
Tried search with "pro" button.
Clicking on the first listed result: a4...@conversationsnetwork.org website button
gets the following:
You are about to log into the site "conversationsnewwork.org" with the username "a4649", but the
website does not require authentication. This may be an attempt to trick you.
Is "conversationsnetwork.org" the site you want to visit?
Answering yes takes me to: http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/
Using the e-mail this stringer option for the first presents the standard message
and no option to enter additional information text.
Using the e-mail this stringer option for the second and third presents
an empty e-mail box that I can enter text into.
Using the switch to map view option gives a blue screen map with the
rthu...@conversationsnetwork.org marker in the middle.
Five minutes after sending e-mail to all three listed pros, I have received
no mail.
Seeker job http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/podcorps/tapesync-display?id=28

Location is about 15 miles from me.
The three pros listed were:

Please try again, and if you don't get an email message for a tape
sync request, please check your spam filter and see if it got caught
there.
Thanks.
