I know some Patch.com journalists in my neck of the woods. One is the E. Conn. regional director. I pointed my local patch writer to the podcampct site and encouraged her to check it out.

I remember last time we extended courtesy passes to legit journalists who were interested in covering the event. We should do so this time, too, I think.

Boy it would be great to have stories publised leading up to the event BEFORE the to drive awareness & registrations!

Cool. I'll take a cut at an email we can send out to media folks. ("News release" has become kind of an antiquated term, but that's essentially wja it'll be.) It'll be easy to whip something up, based on all the existing copy we've got. I can take a crack at compiling a list of folks to alert at the major media outlets. Is there a limit to how many we want to invite (recognizing that not all we invite are likely to come, and most who come probably won't stay too long)?

Last time, Ann Nyberg came and participated all day. I don't know if she will this time, too, but I did include her on a Twitter promo already.

I think the best avenue for driving awareness for the upcoming event is to share the blog posts and photos from your 2010 event....

and while you should feel free to use traditional media sources, if you reach out to the CT blogosphere, then they would hopefully feel special in spreading the word themselves... if someone is ambitious they could create an "I'm going to PodCamp CT 2012 on May 12" graphic for bloggers and facebookers to post on their site....

just a couple of ideas, hope this helps....

I'd really like to get traditional media folks involved in the sessions and to stay for the day. Those were some of the most popular discussions in 2010... I'd be fascinated to learn more about the open newsroom project up in Torrington and about the changes they are making at the NH Register. I'd love to have Chris Velardi and Matt Scott talk about how social media has become a center piece of their day!
That being said, if they are going to participate as citizens then they should probably pay like the rest of us...
Thoughts?

If they come as participants (as Ann and others did in 2010), I think they should pay. I was thinking more of a drop-bys for a few interviews and some photos/videos -- which obviously would be accommodated without charge.

Hi,

The logo on Facebook got a bit distorted.

Can someone with admin rights and graphic art skills perhaps clean it up a bit?  Re-proportionalize (is that a word?) it?

I have one solid and one so-so contact at the New Haven Register, if that helps.

I can "reproportionalize," but I don't have access to the page or the source image.

It'd be great to add the #pcct2012 twitter stream widget to the homepage of the website too!

Cool. I've got to get on the road in a few mins., but I'll knock out a quick media-alert email later tonight or first thing tomorrow, and then pull together a list of contacts. I'll circulate the email for review, and for you all to pass on to your personal connections (if you like).

Jackm I'll try to have the blog post finished for your review tomorrow as well.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks Jim! I spoke to Katlyn the editor of the Whiteboard shes looking forward to helping us spread the news to the entrepreneur/start-up community.
It would be great if more bloggers would write it up too!

I can blog about it. Is there any other info (in addition to what's on the website) that I should know?

Do we know who has admin rights to the page? It would probably be
good if several of us did.

We should also probably add a cover photo, add the event to the
Facebook page and start ramping it up a little.

Angi and Ed are probably the best folks at the Register to talk about
Podcamp with. I know that Angi was at the CTSPJ meeting up in
Torrington about the Open News room, I can't remember if Ed was there.

Ideally, we make sure it is on Matt's radar and we should promote it
in the Community Media Lab. My blog, and Fiona's Radio Show are both
part of the lab (although I've been having problems accessing the lab.

Things are absolute chaos for me right now, but I'll try to get some
blog posts up, as well as point people back to the posts I wrote two
years ago.
