Updating a server with limited access to the host

I am renting a minecraft-pe server from fluctis.com.

They are making no effort to update it, claiming that the versions available are not "sufficiently stable", and that I should downgrade my 0.9.5 iOS client to 0.8.1 (which is of course impossible).

Not only are they running an old version, but it comes with an older php, which won't be compatible with the versions matching my client.

I have only ftp access to the Debian host.

If I just replace the server files, and the php files (also in the folder accessible to me) will it work?

Or do I need access to terminal window, which I do not have.

Can I just replace it all with ftp ?
