Gas Drilling Public Meeting Scheduled In Monroe County
A representative of the Wetzel County Action Group will give a public presentation related to Marcellus Shale gas drilling activity on Monday, June 14th at 7 PM at the Union Senior Center. Everyone is invited and there will be time allotted for questions. This meeting should be an excellent opportunity for Monroe County citizens to gain some insight into how gas drilling affects a rural area.
The Wetzel County Action Group was started in 2006 in response to proposed Marcellus Shale gas drilling in that county. Actual development began three years ago there, and, thus far, approximately twenty sites have been developed.
The Wetzel County Action Group’s mission of purpose is stated on their website http://www.wcag-wv.org, “The Wetzel County Action Group will support economic development for the county and state; and work to insure that economic development does not negatively impact the safety, economic interests, and quality of life of the Citizens of Wetzel County.”
