New VISTA, EPA grant work, next meeting

It's been quite a while since the last update, but things have been
moving behind the scenes slowly but surely.
A priority for us has been to recruit a new VISTA volunteer, and
towards this end I am happy to report that Lynmarie Knight has joined
us as our new VISTA.
Lynmarie spent the last 2 years working with The Mountain Institute
(TMI) in Pendleton County, where she worked as an outdoor
environmental educator, teaching science to kids from many private and
public school groups throughout West Virginia and beyond. As part of
her responsibilities at TMI, Lynmarie instructed for the Appalachian
Watershed Stream Monitor program (AWSM). Lynmarie wishes to branch
out and become involved in further community-based environmental
initiatives, and has decided to spend her next steps with us, the
Pocahontas County Water Resources Task Force. Lynmarie now resides in
Pocahontas County.
Lynmarie has wasted no time, as she is already active in helping us
apply for an EPA Environmental Justice Small Grants Program grant.
This is a funding opportunity to receive a maximum of $25,000, with no
match required. Our proposal is due January 8, 2010. I am hopeful
that this could be used to fund some of our initial activities.

The next meeting of the Pocahontas County Water Resources Task Force
is scheduled for Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 10am-noon at the
McClintic Library in Marlinton. Hope to see you there. :-)

Due to the flooding and anticipated snowfall heading into tomorrow,
let's not try to meet this Wednesday, 1/27, as we had planned.
Instead, let's try for next Wednesday, February 3, from 10am-noon.
