Good morning Working Group on Youth members,
Please see below information on the first Global UNiTE Youth Forum, to be held in Bangkok on 22-
24 May. This is a great opportunity for young people in the Pacific to get involved in the UNiTE
Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls, to engage with other youth from around the
world, and to share their knowledge and perspectives to help take the UNiTE Campaign forward.
The attached concept note explains more about the UNiTE Youth Forum, and details of the selection
criteria for nominees are attached and below. The deadline for nominations is 29 February.
Please take into consideration possible funding for the nominees, particularly to cover travel
costs.
Let’s not miss this opportunity to have the Pacific represented in this exciting initiative for
youth!

Subject: FW: Global UNiTE Youth Forum: 22-24 May, Bangkok, Thailand, Bangkok
Importance: High
Dear colleagues,
As mentioned to a number of you already, I am pleased to share with you the concept note and
nomination form for the first Global UNiTE Youth Forum, to be held in Bangkok on 22-24 May. It
will be the first time ever that young activists from around the world will be brought together
under the UNiTE campaign to discuss common strategies and challenges and to learn from and
inspire one another – as well as to teach us more about their work and give us their
recommendations for us moving forward. We look forward to your active engagement in this exciting
process!
To this end, please note that the deadline for submitting nominations is 29 February. The reason
for this is because we want to have ample time to develop the agenda in close consultation with
the selected participants. As requested by Aldijana below, once you have engaged with your
partners and networks on who would be the most appropriate participants from your countries,
organizations, or thematic area, please forward the completed forms to
alexandra.s...@unwomen.org . To allow us to better coordinate the nominations coming in
from a regional level, I would really appreciate it if you could also copy Rachael in our
regional Secretariat here in Bangkok, at rachael...@unwomen.org .
I look forward to receiving your nominations! Also, do let me know if any of the Agencies or
Programmes would be interested in providing any in-kind or financial support towards this global
meeting, in particular with regards to covering the travel costs of your nominated participants.
All the best,
Anna-Karin

Importance: High
Dear All,
Please find enclosed the concept note for the Global UNiTE Youth Forum (22-24 May, Bangkok,
Thailand) and the Nomination Form. Completed Nomination Forms with all relevant information
included should be sent no later than 29 February to Alexandra Stefanopoulos at:
alexandra.s...@unwomen.org.
Please note that a final selection of participants will be carried out by the UNiTE Campaign
global and regional managers/leads between 1 - 17 March. All selected participants should receive
their invitation letters in the last two weeks of March.
In addition, while all relevant information about the Forum and more details about the selection
criteria are provided in the attached concept note I just wanted to bring to your attention the
following:
· All nominations should be sought through UNiTE campaign inter-agency focal points at
global, regional, sub-regional and country office level and they should be encouraged to nominate
their youth activists after close discussions with their relevant partners, NGO networks and
civil society;
· Global UNiTE Youth Forum will host approximately 50 youth activists - up to 25 youth
activists from the Asia and Pacific region and 25 from Africa, Europe, Latin America and
Caribbean and North America including UN Trust Fund grantees;
· They will be male and female, mostly aged 18-24, though depending on the experience of
the nominated youth activists, there will be a scope for some flexibility to accommodate somewhat
older activists (up to a maximum age of 30);
· One of the most important selection criteria is that they have the knowledge of, are
committed to, and are actively working on preventing and eliminating violence against women and
girls (VAW/G) in their country;
· The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women is also invited to nominate its
grantees, working specifically on the involvement of youth in preventing and ending VAW/G;
· Agenda for the first Global UNiTE Youth Forum will be developed in close collaboration
with selected youth participants and with their active participation and input;
· Sponsorship to cover travel and accommodation costs will be sought for up to 25 youth
activists from the Asia and Pacific region and 25 from Africa, Europe, Latin America and
Caribbean and North America including UN Trust Fund grantees.
Information to be provided in the attached UNiTE Youth Forum 2012 Nomination Form:
· Name of nominee;
· Age;
· Sex;
· Brief biography of the nominated participant;
· Short description of his/her involvement in the issue and relevant
activities/achievements so far;
· Description of the selection process and justification for the nomination.
Selection process:
In finalizing the list of participants for the Forum, we will consider the following:
· Diversity of experiences, including both in the thematic areas as well as the types of
VAW/G prevention and response strategies addressed (e.g. awareness-raising, data collection,
service provision, conflict-related violence, etc.);
· Participation in or development of innovative projects for the purpose of social
mobilization and awareness raising;
· Success rate of work done so far and relevant achievements;
· Gender balance; and
· Regional representation.
I hope this provides you with enough information in order to start the nomination process as soon
as possible and we look forward receiving your proposals.
Best wishes,
Aldijana
