How are you all doing? We have not been interacting with each other
through email and I apologize for that. I know we all have work,
school, and other obligations that we have to tend to so I understand
if we are not interacting that much. As most of you may know, we had
our first session on April 6 (Wed.) and closed it on April 8 (Fri.).
The regular sessions are to be held every 1st Tuesday of every 1st
month of every quarter of the Fiscal Year. We were not organized yet
to be able to meet on the 1st quarter so this was our 1st regular
session. As of now we have 15 official members (includes states and
schools) therefore we need 11 members present for a quorum so we can
conduct our sessions. So when we meet on that Tuesday for the 1st day,
quorum carries on until the last day. Attendance is taken every
session day until we close for other purposes i.e. stipend, etc. I
want to ask that we avail ourselves on those days for our sessions
because this is a really big thing. We are part of a global movement
for youth. Just being a Youth means being part of the youth movement
and being a delegate/member of our National Youth Council brings us up
to another level in the youth business. We are the key people that the
government turns to in anything that regards the youth nationally,
sub-regionally(Micronesia), regionally(Pacific), and internationally.
I will work with the other officers on writing a letter to the
congress to ask for funds (Sen. Akitaya said he has put aside some
funds for us) and when the funds are available we will have something
to work with. We must first work on the set-up of our office so we
have a place to work at and have our meetings. Then we can start on
other projects that we might have in mind for the rest of the year.
There are many opportunities for us young people so that we can take
advantage of. When we make ourselves known and organize and set-up our
office people will look at us and turn to us when anything that is
associated with the youth that comes up. People will want to parnter
up with us like what is happening in other islands here in the Pacific
to either pilot, launch, or help out with their projects.
One thing that is also coming up that we should think about is the
Capacity Building Training in June. This was discussed in the session.
The Pacific Youth Council together with the Youth Officer from SPC are
coming to Palau to conduct this training and will fully fund it. What
they need from us is basically logistics, where to have it, name and
info of participants (participants limited to 30), and the whole nine
yards. The officers and I will call a special session to discuss this
and get everything done. By now we should have our committees and
chairs for those committees the only obstacle we have to overcome is
actually coming to the session. The reason why I called the session at
6pm is because that's when the conference room for the compact review
commission office is open and that's the only suitable (and no cost)
place that I could think of. Also, I was thinking that people could go
home (those who live close by) and do whatever before coming for the
session. If you have any suggestions for the time and place please do
email so that we can get it arranged.
This is turning into an essay and obviously there is no contest of any
sort so I'm not going to prolong this. What I really wanted to ask
everybody is please attend the sessions, there is a possibility of
stipend when we get funding just to help out with gas, airtime, etc. I
understand that we are all doing this at a voluntary basis so let's
help each other out and do something good for us (young people of
Palau).
Thank You All! Should there be any comments, questions, concerns,
violent reactions(LOL), please do email, call, text, whatever works!
All the best,
--

I applaud you for writing! yes it has been a while and i do believe
people have things going on on their personal side, but thanks for
updating everyone! I believe it was necessary. You've probably
noticed, but obviously my email is also a bit out dated.. well, just
goes to say that we do have to meet some needs. But, I believe that
part of our responsibility as active youths is to make time for this,
and so, I'm just letting you know and the rest of the officers and
members, like you, I'm always going to devote my time and effort for
this. and ak mal oumerang that we can all help one another to really
sacrifice everything for this, as we all believe that we are indeed a
part of a very big movement. Like what President Seklii had mentioned,
we all have to participate in sessions and all the meetings in order
to be informed and to have a voice/opinion about all the matters that
we discuss. Remember, you were chosen by your respective youth
associations not only to fulfill the delegate sit, but also that there
is great trust and assurance in you that you can well represent your
state. Take pride in what you do because our work is not in vain. one
of this days we will be able to look back on our journey and say, "WE
DID IT!" and i'd like to join you guys in the future in doing so!
With all said, i believe too that I should also cut this short...
Hadden I think we are the only two competing for this some sort of
essay you made up! :)...
Well, to everyone, May God Bless us all and continue to strengthen us
each day! Let us all continue to do great things, think great
thoughts, and sacrifice time for the benefits of all the youths of
Palau!!!
GOD BLESS & I"LL HEAR FROM YOU ALL SOON!!!
Cheers,
