Hi Everybody;
Highlights: 6 m and 10 m band opens due to the M2.93 from Guadalupe CA, that struck at 23:31 UTC. The 10 m band is still active during this report.
Today there were 15 significant earth quakes that were recorded by the USGS ranging in the size from M4.5 to M6.0.
14 of these quakes were recorded by the RF-Seismograph. For details and a graphical capture of the propagation and explanation see graph below.
Synopsis: The bands were already closed at the change of the day by the clusters of quakes. The first M4.6 quake, from Japan, released at 02:18 UTC and caused a noise dome that was measured on all bands. 40 m started to open up again after 03:00 UTC and was enhanced by another cluster of minor quakes, just before 04:00 UTC. The quake from the South Sandwich Island was a M5.4, timed at 05:12 UTC, and it attenuated the 40 m band. This attenuation continues with the M4.9 from Vanuatu that struck 17 min after. A cluster of minor quakes was active just before 07:00 YTC and it created 40 m propagation and a 15 m noise dome in conjunction of the M6.0 that was to follow at 08:04 UTC from Honduras. This M6.0 created a 80 m noise drop that lasted from 06:30 UTC to 11:00 UTC. With two more M5.+ quakes that followed right after 08:15 UTC and 08:21 UTC the 40 m band starts to recover again. The 40 m band came up after 09:00 UTC and was amplified by the M5.9 from Burma that released at 11:45 UTC and then with clusters of minor quakes between 13:00 UTC and 15:00 UTC. The M5.1 from Chile that struck at 15:13 UTC attenuated the 40 m band and created a negative noise dome that was followed by the 40 m transition oscillation. This oscillation stopped right after the M5.0 from the Solomon Islands that was clocked at 17:38 UTC. Three M4.5 quakes occurred between 19:55 UTC and 21:03 UTC. Two of these quakes were in the Atlantic and on in the Pacific and attenuated the 30 m and 20 m band in conjunction with the M5.3 from Japan that released at 21:22 UTC. The 15 m and the 10 m band came to live today with the M4.0 from Greece at 22:41 UTC and then the M2.93 from Guadalupe CA. The 10 m band is still active during this report.

Hi Mike;
Thank you for the e-mail.
It surprised me too… totally unexpected opening…
In the past week we had really strong solar wind that can create 10m and 6 m
openings, but not yesterday. The solar wind was down considerably, but there
were three quakes that fit the time frame, including a M2.88 in Puerto Rico,
which would explain your opening.

I am also concluding that that the solar wind and the quakes interact to create e-clouds that reflect RF-energy. This would explain the great propagation in the past week, which also had also a very active quake period. The magnetic fields of the quakes form the lenses out of the ionized wind that the radio waves bounce off.
All the best and happy DX

I should add that on Thursday FL time both 6 and 10 reopened I think around noon and stayed open until late then closed down. Long enough to work several more states though more Midwest and east coast and Caribbean focused today though I did get some AZ Qs in the log. So south of you the bands are just open and do not appear to me to be related to earthquake activity. PSKreporter will show up to 24hours band activity on the map.

Not sure about the relationship to the 10M and 6M bands. I arrived at my home in Florida Sunday night and have been working 10M and 6M 24/7 Monday through Wednesday all hours of the day and night taking advantage of the huge opening. Late Wednesday into Thursday morning wee hours 6M tapered off and then 10M slowed significantly but stayed open from FL to the US southwest and to Hawaii. I logged about 25 states on each band on FT-8 at all hours of the day. 15M was also good most of the time but closed down mostly while 6 and 10 stayed open.
Last night I was looking at the PSKReporter.info band map for my own FT-8 reports and the northwest had very few reports and seemed to be left out of the action, which would include your station. I also operate remote from my house on Camano Island an hour or 2 from you and conditions were not great, no 6M and little 10M activity was heard on my station there, confirming the PSK band activity map data (relative to my FL station as the TX and RX source).
So in conclusion, I think the 10M and 6M activity you saw was coincidental and related to the larger band opening that had been running for a few days, you are just on the fringe with occasional propagation spurts. If you were to run the receiver in another location like in FL here you will probably have much different observations.
