Hello group,

I discovered that my IC-746 is too old for ICOM to fix.  Does anyone know of a place that would replace the finals on mine? A gremlin switched cables when I rearranged the shack and 12v got sent to the rig instead of the preamp. The last time I had some work done ICOM sent my rig out for repair but I recall hearing that the guy who did this has since passed away.

Thanks,

Tom

Kuni Okuma outside Poulsbo 360-779-9730...don't know if he's still around, but he did great work on my 756PROIII some years ago.

Malcolm Technical Support (MTS) in Toledo, WA.  Former ICOM tech.  Reasonable rates, good work, honest guy.

He has done repairs, alignment and calibration on my IC-735, IC-751A and IC-706MKIIG.  All came back good as new and he warranteed his work.

Bruce at Sultantronics is the man to go to. Kuni is retired.

Kuni Okuma, W7JV is still around - I see him and his Wife at many of the NW Hamfests. He retired from doing service work a few years ago and shut down his business "Comtek.". He recommended I now send radios to be repaired to Scott Malcolm at MTS (Malcolm Technical Support) in Toledo, Western Washington. I've had him repair several radios, with excellent results, good prices and fast turnaround.

Hi Tom,

I've had both an ICOM 7600 and an IC 706Mk2 repaired by Bud Garside (W7ARS) in Sherwood (between Portland and Newberg), Oregon. He did a good job and rates were reasonable. I think he had the 706 for about two weeks and the 7600 for three and a half weeks.

I live in southwest Portland so I just take my radios out to his shop. In the past he would pick up radios left at Ham Radio Outlet on Highway 99 for repair on Thursday mornings but I don't know if he still does that.

Good luck with whoever does your repair. (It would be interesting to know who you chose and what you thought about the repair when you get your radio back.)
