Hello All,

I am throwing this out for the group, perhaps someone knows.  I have a Garmin IQue M5 GPS/PDA that runs on Windows Mobile CE 2003 Version 4.21.1088.  This is a GPS and also a PDA.  This GPS has turn by turn directions and has voice announcements of directions and turns.    It would be nice to be able to display Maidenhead Grids on this GPS unit, however I also have a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx that does display Maidenhead Grid Squares and has many other features but turn by turn directions are via beeps and screen flashes.  Does anyone know of software that will convert Lats/Longs to Maidenhead Grid Squares that will run on Windows Mobile CE?

HI Bruce,

I don't know about programs to run on your mobile operating system, but there are
many programs that convert lat/lon to grid squares. I do it in my free GJTRACKER
program:

Some GPS units will show coords in Maidenhead grid squares. See this
page:

My Garmin etrex tells me I'm in CN97tj.

Hi Bruce,

I'm not sure if this will run under Windows CE or not but you might give it a try anyway.

Either the ZIP package or just the grid.exe on it's own.

Good luck,

There is a trend brewing that may make actual Lat Lon more important,
especially if scoring becomes distance related over quantity. There are
Very simple formulas for figuring Grid Squares from LAT LON... don't
think you need a GPS to do the translation....1x2!

I wrote one for the 16F84 but don't know much about Windows CE. There
is a good C++ source out on the web if I could remember where I saw
it. Of course I found it after I developed my own - the other one was
easier to understand than mine but I was limited to 8 bit arithmetic
with no multiply or divide since I was writing it first in C++ for
testing and then hand translating it to PIC assembly. There is also
some not so good source out on the Web - the worst was one I saw that
only worked in the Western half of the Northern hemisphere - lazy
programmer. Another used approximate floating point numbers for
subsquares - potential rounding errors - yuck.

I see a precanned program at http://www.keplerian.com/ that might run
on a Windows CE box. I think it depends on what you want to do. My
16F84 monitors the NMEA sentences and calculates the 6 digit grid
square for CW beaconing when on hilltops. If you are looking for a
utility program to manually enter the lat/long and have it spit out
the grid square the program above might do the trick.

Aloha to all:

Sorry off topic, I am looking for some help. Do any of the computer gurus on this list know how to make something similar to the NeoCube seen on blog sites and such in huge or Large version with streams and software on my host computer or server running on all six facets? Also help to make it work on my big touch screen? Can anyone direct me to someone that has something like this developed already?

Thanks if there is anyone…Jeremy w7eme
