FT-847 CAT/Antenna Tuner Question

A friend recently obtained a Yaesu FT-847 to add 6/2/70 to his stable of equipment. (For the first time, he can now access the weak signal VHF bands!)

 

The operating manual states that a user can do C.A.T. with the radio, which he loves & is successfully doing, but cannot utilize the built-in antenna tuner at the same time!

 

Is anyone familiar with a hardware modification or software modification which will permit him to utilize both of these great features at the same time?

Hello Pete,

I have the same combination of the FT-847 and FC-20. I have tried differing
approaches to resolve this but found that the CAT communication lines cannot
be shared between two input/output devices. This is a weakness with the Yaesu
line in that this oversight limits remote control capabilities.
In my case, I now don't use the FC-20.
