Hello,

Has anyone else ordered the $20 USB TV Receiver that can be used as an SDR?

Loks like it will work great for a second SDR receiver for me.

Hello,

For anyone ordering this dongle make sure the one you order has the E4000 tuner chip in it. This will assure you that you get the 64 to 1700MHz tuning range.

For the lower tuning range they are using a HF up-converter consisting of a 100MHz oscillator, mixer, and lowpass filter input to the mixer.

That way 1MHz to 64MHz will tune as 101 to 164MHz.

Aloha Loren,

These are quite handy for remotely monitoring and networking your own signal. I am using the +E4000 chip set. There are hundreds of Hong Kong dealers selling these. Incidentally they started at $40 each, but the dealers have price war'ed them down to $20.

Fun toy.

What does this use for an antenna connection? Pigtail? There are not
many parts for projects like this in Alaska and I'd like to order a
pigtail at the same time. TNX.

Paul here is a mod that I did to my EZ Cap tuner. I originally posted this on the ultra cheap sdr Google groups page. see attached picture. I added a BNC connector to mine and shielded the case. you can see more pictures on my google+ page.

Hey alan thought I would share my mod to my ez cap. I used a bulk head bnc solder type to replace the factory connector. I then lined the plastic.case with aluminum tape for shielding. I would liked to have used copper tape but that is a little hard to find. You  can find the aluminum tape that I used at the hardware store in the hvac section. Please see attached picture. Have fun!

yes there is, its called the GNU Radio Project. the RLT tuner with the e4k. the ezcap dvbt tuner does support this.

http://gnuradio.org/redmine/projects/gnuradio/wiki

have fun.

Loren I didnt get a chance to test with and with out shielding, but will post when I do. I am also planning on adding ferrite to the usb cord to and from the PC. Better safe than sorry. RF can do some funny things. Some one also posted that there was a switching supply on board, not sure if it was the same model as mine. will take a closer look later.

have fun! I know I am :)
