Hi all, is someone near Goldendale or CN95ot that can listen to NOAA Weather Radio station WNG-566 on 162.525?

Here’s a gentleman back east (Les N1LF) that’s looking for spoken-language information about this transmitter. Please CC n1lf...@gmail.com with a response.

Meanwhile, a helpful tip:  if you ever want to know what VHF operators are in a given area, here’s a list of the PNW Society members sorted by grid square: https://www.pnwvhfs.org/roster.html?sortby=grid

Thanks, Barry K7BWH

I'm an avid weak-signal VHF fan from Alabama, and also enjoy DXing NOAA Weather Radio stations. I help to maintain a national database of these stations.

Recently, we got a report that WNG-566 is broadcssting some of their information in Spanish, but haven't been able to confirm that with the National Weather Servicve. By chance, do you know of any VHF operators who are in the vicinity of the transmitter who could check it to verify?

Nice list, Barry

I was surprised to see eight Alaskan members listed.
three grids covered: BP40, BP51, and BP64

That would be difficult, according to https://www.weather.gov/nwr/stations?State=WA  or State=OR

Goldendale, WA is several miles north of Biggs, OR but no such station is near there either

There does not appear to be a WNG-566.

Nor is it listed at the FCC ULS.

Joe and Tony, thanks for looking at it.

The original requester, Les Rayburn N1LF, wrote me again to add:

“My apologies. WNG-566 is decommished and no longer on the air. I am trying to confirm if it ever broadcast in Spanish? Hoping someone can confirm or deny. – Les N1LF”

Any NOAA listeners here who recall the WNG566 languages used?

Please CC Les n1lf...@gmail.com since he’s not a subscriber to our email list.

Thanks in advance,

Barry K7BWH
