Hello Rod et al (from DM04ne today):

I typically only operate in small contests and still use the yellow pad of paper; then I enter the QSO data in Microsoft Word's little "Table" section. I have a column for distance for each QSO. I use the distance/bearing between 2 six-digit grid locators for the Km info. "Table" is the stupid man's "Excel"; I m stupid, but it works!! I 'Sum' the column & then Total Cumulative Distance is shown.

For the first few minutes of the SPRINT, there was nobody else at my favorite operating location in the Santa Monica Mts; then the bike riders, motorcycle riders, & Porshe drivers showed up to demonstrate their prowess on the curvy mountain roads. Was in and out of coastal clouds from my 2600 ft msl altitude. Temp. in mid 60s. I used ALINCOs for 23 & 33  cm with "VJB Cheapie Yagis". Not much local activity, but did get a 33cm SWL report from someone who was using  a $19 SDR & 3 element yagi. KM6B discovered that signals are sometimes better when bounced off hills, rather than depending upon direct path..

3 QSOs each on 23 & 33 cm (4 different callsigns worked); total distance 210 km.

I've participated in the first 4 Spring SPRINTS as 2m Rover in CM94/DM04; /7 in CN87tw for 135 cm; /6 QRP in Thousand Oaks (DM04ne) for 70 cm; /6 QRP in Santa Monica Mts (DM04qb).for 23/33cm

I meant this to go to everyone.  That usually happens when I do not want it ot go to everyoneFor the first few minutes of the SPRINT, there was nobody else at my favorite operating location in the Santa Monica Mts; then the bike riders, motorcycle riders, & Porshe drivers showed up to demonstrate their prowess on the curvy mountain roads. To add to Peter's question;
  What program should (can?) I use to do these distance calc's.
I am a 'newby' in events scored this way.
It will not likely be the last try.
I had a great time, even though being right on the flank of Mount Rainier did not seem to do much for me.
In most cases, the direct path was significantly better.  One exception was hearing W7GLF on 903.2 FM off the mountain.  I could not hear anything from him via the direct heading.
Rough count was 27 Q's while activating 3 grids (CN86, CN87, and CN96) on 903.2. FM and 1296.1 SSB.
  I never heard anything on 10 GHz.
