I’ve been inactive on VHF for several years, but I made a modest effort Saturday in CN76 near Surfside on Saturday, on what I was told was the highest point on the Long Beach Peninsula — 50 feet! I worked a grand total of four stations — two each on 6 and 2. Heard nothing on 70cm. I had only a halo on 6 and a 4-element yagi on 2/70cm.
Stations worked: NR7RY in CN86, AL1VE in CN87 on 2 meters; N7MWV and my old Tacoma neighbor Eric, N7EPD, both in CN87, on 6 meters. I heard WA7PVE on 2, but he had a pileup going on.
After a couple hours I packed it in and went to the Garlic Festival. However, it’s a promising spot, above the Surfside Golf Course, and I plan to be back in January with better antennas.
I live in Raymond now — a terrible VHF location, in a river valley surrounded by hills. So portable is my only way to go,
