GPS question

Hello

Is there a GPS device that can

1. give directions

2. show lat/long or even grid squares

Yes.

Look for navigation models.  Almost all will give Lat/lon -- Garmins and some others do Maidenhead.  If you happen have an iPhone, its built-in GPS can work with http://iphone.donaldhays.com/maidenhead/ (now free).  If you get a consumer navigation model, make sure it also can put out NMEA 0183 strings on a serial line (better true serial than USB) then you can use it on D-STAR/DPRS or APRS and with mapping programs.
