Subject: [VHFcontesting] Icom IC-9700 PTT Breakout Mod

Hi there,

I posted this on the IC-9700 groups.io list yesterday but realized that
some folks on this list may be interested in this as well.

I posted an article of a PTT breakout mod for the IC-9700 that I
developed over a year ago but only just now got a chance to document it:

Icom IC-9700 PTT Breakout Mod (or, "the parts Icom forgot") - The Ham
Lab [1]

This mod will create three separate PTT outputs, one per band, and is
fully implemented in hardware (no CAT or software involved) with just
few dollars worth of parts that you may already have in your junk box.

--Alex KR1ST

The PTT issue is why I will never buy an IC-9700.

This is one of probably 2 complex solutions people have developed to overcome it.

I took a different approach. I simply break the PTT lines from the
8-pin mic jack and send PTT to my station 4-stage sequencer to organized
LNA power, TR relays, TX to transverters and amplifiers, wit the last
stage sending PTT to the radio. Audio cables are passed via a RG-174
cable from mic to radio directly:
http://www.kl7uw.com/IC9700_Hints&Measurements.htm

S2 was added to disable PTT when other radios were used with the station
sequencer. S2 should be labeled TX and STBY.

This does not address connecting digital signals to/from the IC9700.
Not in any particular rush as my K3 is already wired for digital modes.

I have yet to install Bodnar Frequency board so have yet to document
that process.
