Dear Friends,

As part of their Bird Song event, IME in collaboration with PNLIT, had organized a Nature Walk on Sat. 23rd April 2022. The walk led by Vishnupriya Hathwar became an exciting discovery of birds in our backyard lake. Here’s what two participants had to say about the Nature Walk:

I really enjoyed the bird walk at Puttenahalli lake on 23rd April! Hanging out with our guide and a group of interested people and spotting so many birds - some known and many unknown - was a great way to spend my evening. The Bird Song exhibit put together at IME was also fascinating.

I appreciate PNLIT for all the work they do to nurture Puttenahalli Lake and the effort taken by IME to linking birds to music, instruments and mythology while providing Indian and global context. I'll be visiting both the lake and IME and highly recommend you to do the same if you love nature and/or music!

Puttenahalli Lake Walk organized by PNLIT & IME was an enjoyable experience.  We assembled at the gazebo at the Lake and were briefed by Mr. Vishnupriya.  We were a mixed group of participants and it was heartening to see so many young children enthusiastically participating with their binoculars and notebooks.  Vishnupriya was a fund of interesting information about the flora and fauna there.  We were able to see pond heron, kite, koel, Spot-billed duck, swamp hen, cormorant, grebe, purple moorhen, egret among others.  It was a pleasure to see the surroundings and walkway clean and serviceable. It has been transformed from a debris dumping site and wasteland to a thriving lake today, for which I heartily congratulate PNLIT for reviving the lake and its ecosystem and restoring it to its pristine beauty.  It is an example of how citizen driven initiatives can prevail in restoring our glorious heritage, lakes being one of the most important parts of our erstwhile landscapes.

Lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing and also the write up about the event.

All good wishes,
N Ravi

P.S. After a gap of 12 years (since I moved to South City), I saw a pair of house sparrows yesterday during my morning walk.

Was truly elated to note that they are returning to our community.
