About Savithakka

Born in Bengaluru Savithakka started learning at a tender age under the tutelage of her mother, a well-known singer smt. Neelambike. Savitha further honed her talents by training with senior mentors in the field of classical music, including Carnatic vocalist Ratna Shivashankar, and Hindustani vocalists Pandit. V. M. Nagaraj and Pandit. Dattatreya Joshi. She furthered her training in Sugama Sangeetha under the guidance of Sri M S Kamath and acclaimed music composer and sought-after mandolin master Sri N. S. Prasad.

Realizing the uniqueness in her voice, a base tonal quality that sets her apart from other singers, Savithakka began to carve a niche for herself by rendering folk music, Tatva pada, Bhakti Geete, Bhava Geete, in her own unique style.

As a folk singer, she has received recognition from All India Radio & Doordarshan. She has rendered her voice to the popular music album `Sharanu Janapada’ produced by lahari group, featuring authentic Kannada folk songs. Savithakka has sung for over 100 audio cassettes. As a contestant on the popular reality show, Kannada Kogile, she won the hearts of Kannadigas.

Dear All,

The folk music concert by Savithakka, the internationally renowned singer, was one of a kind. We were privileged to host this concert at the lake together with the Indian Music Experience on Sunday 24th April 2020.

Savithakka is blessed with a powerful voice and it seemed as if for that one hour, even the birds stopped chirping to hear her sing. She began with a prayer and effortlessly moved from one song to the other taking the audience along as much with her smile as with her singing. Accompanied by Sri Ganesh Prasad on the harmonium and Sri Puttaraju Gonahalu on the tabla, Savithakka was given able vocal support by her son.

Here are two reports from members of the audience.

*An evening well spent amidst music and nature*

The musical evening organized at the Puttenahalli lake by the Indian Music experience museum and the lake trust was exceptionally beautiful. Savithakka's mesmerizing and powerful voice reverberated through the air as the audience and walkers enjoyed the folk music experience.  It was a welcome change to be out amidst nature enjoying music instead of a phone or laptop screen.

Savithakka transported us into the fields and homes in rural Karnataka with her superb rendering of  folk songs! What an evening it was beside the lake. Savithakka's singing, the fantastic beats of the tabla by Puttaraju Gonahalu and soothing harmonium by Ganesh Prasad! I had to hold on to my chair so that I wouldn't get up and start dancing!! Mesmerising!! Thank You, IME and PNLIT!!
