Bird Update at Puttenahalli Lake

Hi all,

Here's Madhurima's note and pix of the birds she spotted today morning at our lake. Would you like to join her on a weekend? Depending on the number of people interested, we can arrange for a bird watch.

p.s. I so envy her for seeing an Oriental White-eye! I've wanted to see one for so long. 

 

Lots of good news. When I walked into the lake premises today, I saw a pair of what I think are black winged stilts flying out. Then I saw 2 purple herons, followed by a flock of 12 scaly breasted munia and then the oriental white eye showed up with the missus. And that was not all, after coming home and zooming into the photos of some little grebes that I has taken, I realized that they weren't little grebes at all. They were baby coots. Here are some pics. the pheasant tailed jacanas are still here. hopefully we will hv some jacana chicks soon.

Wow!  The stilts are a sight!

There are so many small birds chirping and humming in the lake these days. The other day, I saw the big Grey Heron perched on one of those perches we have put and 6 white-breasted kingfishers sitting on the next perch ! 

There were two ducks - mostly the Lesser whistling duck - playing and flying around, and a black cuckoo singing as high as she can :-)
