Dear friends,

It’s 14 years today since we registered our trust PNLIT! One of the main objectives of the trust is environment protection and much of our focus from 2010 has been to assist BBMP with nurturing Puttenahalli Lake. Thanks to all our partners, donors, volunteers, well-wishers and especially the neighbourhood, for helping to make the lake ecosystem thrive, and also for your support to PNLIT for its other civic activities.

Over the years, we have overcome very many difficult situations but the past 18 months or so have been really tough with administrative issues. It was brewing from March 2020, ever since the High Court prohibited BBMP from entering into agreements with ‘corporate entities’ for lake maintenance. As an abundant precaution, BBMP did not renew our MoU or that of our sister groups, MAPSAS, Jalaposhan, Iblur Environs Trust, and NeTra, even though we were all 'citizen groups' representing the local community.

We felt let down but for the sake of our lakes, pulled along as well as we could while BBMP waited for a direction from the Court. Four years passed with no sign of the situation improving. A few days ago, all of us got together with other ‘lakers’ in the city and, based on our collective grassroots experience of over several years and lakes, drafted an 'MoU with Citizen Groups' which BBMP could consider submitting to the court and obtain approval. It's too early for the outcome. Meanwhile, we’ll wish ourselves strength to sustain our effort. We seek your continued support for us and our city's lakes.

To end on a happier note, here's a collage of recent photographs taken at our Puttakere by several photographers.

Dear PNLIT Team,

Thank you very much for your updates on, and photos of our neighborhood Puttakere.

We are truly grateful to you all for caring, nurturing and protecting the lake and its environs with indefatigable zeal for fourteen long years.

I am sure that your efforts and persistence will bear fruit soon and that the courts and BBMP
will restore administrative custody of the lake to PNLIT and the local community.

Wishing you all the very best for the year ahead.

Regards
