Concern for Puttenahalli Lake

Dear Friends, 

Ever since June 2010, we have shared many updates with you about Puttenahalli Puttakere in our neighbourhood, JP Nagar 7th Phase. It has been a long journey of highs and lows — inevitable when caring for an open public space shaped by so many stakeholders. Through every challenge, we drew strength from the small successes and kept going.

Sadly, this time, we find ourselves without that reassurance.

The recent article, “Bengaluru’s Puttenahalli Lake slips from green haven to worry spot” published in the Deccan Herald on Sunday, 10 May 2026, reflects the seriousness of the situation that Puttenahalli Puttakere now faces. 

What sustained us once
now feels fragile.
Hope is no longer confidence —
only the decision to remain.*

Dear Usha,

The news is indeed very disturbing. This is yet another example of why government should not do something the citizens are willing to do for free. Obviously, the motivation for the people concerned has nothing to do whatsoever with lake protection or nurturing.

Hoping that some divine intervention will get the management back where it belongs.
